Can i prevent dialysis

Hi,

I am 45, got diagnosed with type-2 diabetes last year, hypertension since 2014. Discovered low LVEF in 2014 but recovered and its high normal now.

My creatinine was around 1.9-2 in 2014 but it has shot up recently as i became careless with diet. It was 2.32 in May 2019, 2.84 in July 2019 and 3.29 in August this year.

Can i still prevent dialysis by doing all I should do. Is there still a way out or shall i start preparing for parallel plan?

Please guide.

Hello and welcome Ash-Pan to this very informative community. You are in India I believe and I don't know what your Consultant would recommend for you, however getting back on track with your diet is bound to help your all round health. Speak to your Health professional so that they may guide you and a dietitian if there is one available to you that specializes in Kidney and Diabetic health.

Are there any of our members that can help with info and support Ash-Pan please?

Do keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.

Thank you so much. I will get back when I test again after strict diet control, fitness activities and yoga.

Hi AshPan!

I'm not a renal dietitian by any means, however I have been fighting the big fight as we all have with our GFR and creatinine increases.

Diet is extremely important. kidney.org has some great recommendations for sodium, potassium, and phosphorus. Those are the big 3 to either limit or avoid.

Exercise is important as well. For a kidney patient it is recommended at least 30 mins of physical activity per day.

Unfortunately doing the research and making a list is time consuming but it's nothing compared to your overall health (I spent 3 hours in the grocery store yesterday just reading labels). Best of luck! Definitely look for a dietitian if you can, as Mas_Nurse has suggested

Hi AshPan. I am sorry to hear that you are going through this. I have been there myself. I went onto dialysis when my creatinine went over 400 ( or 4 as it is now measured), but have been VERY fortunate to have a kidney transplant. I think that diet ( probably cutting out red meat might help with creatinine) would help your levels and as others have said- avoiding salt- particularly potassium. However, 3.29 sounds quite high- sorry to be negative and it may be best to look at some plan for the medium term future. Is there a kidney transplant register in your country, is it something which your culture allows? ( I am sorry if I have caused any offence...).
