Hi Janicel,
I would have assumed by now that if you are diagnosed at stage 3 CKD that you should be under the care of a consultant nephrologist and that you should be having regular kidney function tests every 6-12 months. I would certainly ask your doctor to refer you. Here is a link to more information about the stages of CKD and their management:

Hope this helps.

Thankyou so much x
Hi there, I am at stage 4 egfr 22, I too have been experiencing lower back pain. I have been attending a Urologist and my bladder is not emptying either. My nephrologist feels this may be a factor in my CKD. On Tuesday I was taught how to self catheteris. This will allow me to fully empty my balder. It is a bummer to know I will never get totally healthy again, but I can only do what I can to arrest this illness. No salt and drink a lot of water. The doctors can only do so much, the rest is up to you. Good luck.
Thankyou my lovely so you think they will tell me to self catheteris? How is this done ....
I think it is ill advised of any of us to give you particular advice. You said the scan results have been provided to someone for further investigation. Do not jump to the conclusion that because you have a poor bladder release that immediately it is CKD. May be? Yes. But so many things can be the cause. Blockage. Kidney stone. Retention from the antibiotics. Antibiotics are HARMFUL to a CKD kidney. The dosage needs to be low. You said it was for 6 times. This alone may be the problem. The hardest part is waiting. First see what the further analysis of your results indicate. Then your doctor will of course provide you the information. My father once had a similar situation. Pain. Had to use catheter. Ended up in emergency room. There it was found, with CT scan, he had two problems causing it all. Constipation, which pinched the possible release of urine and a kidney stone (large, had to be removed with surgery). The kidney was producing urine properly. The bladder had no problem. There just was no way for the urine to get out. With removal of kidney stone and mile dosage of a powder laxative daily for the rest of his life, there was no such problem again. What is your primary care doctor telling you??? As far as referral to a kidney doctor, of course it can not hurt. But certainly your "normal" doctors should be able to tell you the cause and how to treat it. There is no miracle, specialized treatment known only to a kidney doctor. I see a urologist, a primary care, an oncologist and a kidney doctor. I find that my kidney doctor provides me no more insight nor knowledge that I do not already have from the other three. Press your normal doctor for an answer!
Get your questions together and talk to your doctor. Be persistent.....you are your best advocate. Good luck and keep us posted.
