Hello. Of course you worry. It is natural. And as much as we can all say try not to worry too much, it won't change anything. We all still worry ourselves. You did not give your fathers age, which is also a factor. Your fathers numbers are quite similar to mine. I too am stage 3b. No abnormal protein in urine. Blood pressure under control (your fathers is very good at 120/80). I too walk daily. I am 69 years old. My level (numbers) have remained fairly constant for almost 2 years now. The difference between us seems to be that your father has been told his kidneys are shrinking. It is my understanding that while there is a general size that is "normal" for an adult male, that the size varies between ethnicity, height, even weight. And yes the kidney size has slight changes in size as we age. You were told the size based upon a latest ultrasound. If you had a previous ultrasound that showed a larger size, then clearly they are shrinking. But without a previous measurement I wonder how they know they are shrinking or is this just your fathers normal size. But in any case, you have to deal with today. He is 3b, like me. His bp is now under control. He walks daily. There are no magical medications. He should keep his protein, potassium and phosphorus intake within daily recommendations. And of course get his blood and urine tested as doctors advise (I do every 3 to 4 months). I have learned beyond that there is not much else to do. Do not jump to the conclusion this is the end of the world. Remember stage 3b is considered Moderate kidney disease. Where it goes from here is different for everyone. You will find information where some with 3b progress rapidly, others that maintain for years, others with many other outcomes. I have learned that I can spend all my time worrying, trying to figure out why, reading study after study, and in the end it is a waste of my time and energy. I now focus on just doing the right diet, exercise, listening to my doctors and living a normal life. Perhaps if I was much younger my approach would be different. But at my age, my stage of 3b, this "disease" may not have much influence on my life expectancy. Again remember is it MODERATE kidney disease. Here is a link to a study on kidney size based upon ethnicity, weight and height. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Thanks a ton rickhow, i pray and wish may god give you always a good health !!
Yes kidney shrinkage is the concern before 3 years ago they were in normal size but now size is decreased ! as per docters advise we did renal doppler test and results showing this is renal paranchayal disease but docters are saying this is CKD at Satge 3 and provided only Blood prssure med. & Salt Restrected Diet !
However !! Prayers and wishes for you..stay fit always thanks for Support with the words !!
Hello Rickhow you have answered on my question, now i need to share some info. so contacting you !!
i have recently done my father lab test and Now GFR is 51 and creatinine reduced to 1.46 from 2.08 ,,... So i would like to know my father CKD now stopped or slow down his progression can i look forward & postive about the CKD will maintian or remain same for years ?
I am not a doctor but your news is certainly good news. Who can predict what will happen in our lives tomorrow. Not even a doctor. But your father is improving quite a lot and certainly this means it is not a progression. You are obviously doing the correct things, so keep doing them. And just continue to have your labs done occasionally and be sure you stay the same or get even better yet. Your news is good news.
