I have just received my blood test results and am totally confused.
My doctor says at stage 3 b just carry on exercising and even lifting weights but my creatinine is 170 and I thought that exercising produced more creatine?
Also he says eat food as usual but can down on meat fat?

Exercising can indeed increase creatinine levels (and correspondingly decrease the creatinine-based eGFR). This increase happens NOT due to worsening your kidney function, but simply because your body is generating more creatinine. High creatinine by itself does not harm you, it simply results in an underestimated eGFR.
FINALLY, an informed and positive comment, although I'd suggest to the original poster that he needs to learn the difference between creatine and creatinine. One unrelated thing I discovered was that a strenuous quarter mile sprint (I'm nearing 60 yrs old) raised my CK (creatine kinase) through the roof. Didn't know I should have stopped exercising a few days before blood drawing. So many folks are under the impression that raised creatinine harms the kidneys when it's just an indicator that can be thrown off by so many different things. I've recently started lifting again, and the only thing I'm doing differently now is that I'm trying to avoid doing heavy weights or reps to failure. I try to stop just short of it so that the muscle (protein) breakdown doesn't unnecessarily stress the kidneys. The studies say you can do a fair bit of exercising without harming the kidneys as long as you stay hydrated and rest properly. I also avoid red meat. Been at Stage 3A for quite a while although I've recently started to head toward 3B, but not there yet.
I too am 3B. There are so many conflicting views about this stage. You will find calculators and websites that show you what a very low percentage of people advance from this stage to failure. Others will be a lot like your doctor, just to basically carry on as usual, and avoid the obvious (meat fats, excessive salt, etc., etc., etc.). A lot depends on WHY you are at 3B. Is it really a kidney "failure" or is it due to other considerations. Such as other diseases, medications, dehydrations, blood pressure, and unending list. Remember this classification system of eGFR is really all based on Creatinine levels for your age, sex, race. It is basing the actual function of your kidney on the overly simplified data. But your doctor has access to all the other conditions I just mentioned. And also to your other blood and urine statistics. ALL of those things need consideration. My doctors tell me the same as yours. To stay active, exercise as much as possible (always staying hydrated). Now I'm sure they do not mean going into the profession of professional weight lifter. :). But to walk briskly, do enough with weights to maintain muscle mass, etc.
IS your doctor a specialist...best to see one and get strait to the facts.and a dietitian to get useful advice..there are all sorts of things you can do to help...no salt added to food will help.. regards c
