Hello everyone I'm going out on a limb by posting this on board I'm seeking advise from others.. this is my story as some of you may know already on oct 6th I was diagnosed with stage 3 ckd gfr reading was at 51% doctor asked me to come back in a month to retest. I went back and my gfr level was 107 doctor explained that me being on antibiotics may have caused me levels to decrease. For the pass couple of weeks I have noticed bubbles in my urine and this alarmed me. I went to the doctors today and did a dipstick test that showed I have a trace of protein in my urine.. doctor said nothing to worry about but I been stressing about this. I have read many articles that say you can have a normal gfr level and still have ckd any insight will be helpful for me.. Im seen a urologist tomorrow to discuss this situation.. honestly I don't know if I have ckd or not I'm so confused..

Hi Debra first thing , don't panic , most GPS have limited knowledge of CKD , you are doing the best thing by seeing a neurologist, even if you are stage 3 you have a long way to go. I'm stage ;4 and have been for 4 years, in fact I have slowly got better readings , and at 74 I'm not doing bad. Main thing for you to do at the moment would be stop worrying, eat sensibly , avoiding grapefruit juice, which is not kind to kidneys , let us know how you get on x
Hi Debra,
As Jilab said, please don't panic.
There are lots of things that can cause all of the symptoms you have experienced such as infections.
You are wise to take note though and get yourself checked out.
My story was similar to yours. I'm telling you only because the more info you have the better. I was alarmed when I had a 51 GFR and asked my doctor about it. He didn't act too concerned, but did have me take a urine test. At that time he found microscopic hematuria ( blood in urine). I was sent to a urologist for lots of testing over several years as the hematuria persisted.
I was finally sent to a nephrologist. By this time my GFR had gone up, but I began showing signs of proteinuria though only minor. She suspected IGA Nephropathy, but couldn't be sure without a biopsy which she didn't want to do until necessary as my kidney function was in the 70's by now. A year later, I had a huge protein leak and was given a biopsy. Indeed I had IGANephropathy with some kidney scarring( that is irreversible damage).
My particular case seems to be linked to food and environmental intolerances. IGA is an autoimmune disease so it makes sense as my body was constantly fighting food and surroundings and in return damaging my kidneys. Since I've gotten that more under control, my numbers went into the 80's, however, every time I get sick, have an infection or eat the wrong foods, it drops back down for awhile. If I had not caught this, I would have continued to damage my kidneys beyond repair. Now I am able to slow down the progress.
I hope you are able to find your answers. Keep us posted.
Hang in there, Babe, we have great medical help today. Try to relax and enjoy. I had a kidney removed due to bladder cancer 2 years ago. Today I am stage 3 and have been since the lost of the kidney. I am 76 and going strong. I feel great. Tell the doctor how concerned you are tomorrow and he/she will try to relax you. You will be fine.
