Protein in Urine: 0.3 g/L, Blood in Urine: none, Creatinine at 83, which gives an eGFR of 106. Spot BP: 135/84. HbA1c = 6.2 (pre-diabetic)

Doctor advises me to eat health - low fat, low sodium, and low sugar; exercise more and lose weight.

More tests tomorrow: ACR and Total Cholesterol, repeat HbA1c three month later.

Excellent, Samuel!

I knew it would all be good!

Your kidney functions are very normal and protein spilling minimal.

Did he explain why the prior tests were higher?

None the less, diet and exercise are the keys to kidney health. You wil find that the less animal protein and more vegetables you eat, the easier the weight will come off.

I have been plant based for almost 2 years..I dropped 15 pounds in a year, safely and without stress. My husband eats basically what I do and has lost weight as well.

Again, delighted by your news! Please post again!

Bet:)

I had a very bad throat infection five weeks ago, which might explain the massive protein leak. In this result, my WBC count remained high at 11.1, and HbA1c is pre diabetic range. He suggests immediate lifestyle change, or face the onset of diabetes which is likely to hurt my kidney as well.

Hope you are feeling better.

The lifestyle change will be easier than you think.

I am grateful that this was caught early and be delt with.

He is right as I saw my brother through diabetes diagnosis.

Eliminate the junk food and sugary soda to start.

Vegetables, whole grains and fish...

Get out for a walk 3-4 times per week.

Any diabetics or folks who have reduced their A1C please share!

About one year ago I was in about the same condition as you. I got the same advice. I follow a diet which I find quiet acceptable. I keep my protein level at the daily recommended amount. I DO consume animal protein, but again make sure it does not exceed daily requirements (including other sources which also contain protein). I primarily due chicken and pork. Very, very seldom beef. I do the same for salt intake. My sugar was a little less than yours. I honestly do not pay too much attention to my sugar intake. I find by just eating foods that are proper amounts of salt and protein, the sugar takes care of itself. Most foods with low salt, protein, are not high in sugar. I walk 3 miles daily (and love doing it). In the year I have lost just over 32 pounds. I am down two sizes in clothing. My blood pressure has dropped so much that I now take 1/4 the dosage of blood pressure meds I was taking before. I was never obese. I am 6ft tall and at peek weighed 200 lbs. Not terrible. Just the slight diet change and exercise and I am a totally different person. How did this change my kidney function (I have only one kidney)?? Not much. But my doctors tell me it is slowing the decline tremendously and my numbers have remained stable for a year. Prior they were dropping. Most important. It makes me feel GREAT. Perhaps I have not extended my life even a day. But the day's I have are much more enjoyable and I am a different person.
