Post pregnancy GFR level

Friends, we are blessed with a baby boy amid my wife being a long sufferer of CKD and her GFR had been around 30/35 marks for past 3 years.

It's about 6 days after c section now and her creatinine level has been playing up shooting to 233 from 204 yesterday comparing to 160 - 180 pre pregnancy.

Her kidney issue is primarily due to reflux & hyperactive bladder which is being addressed by botox in her bladder every 6 month.

Questions:

1. Anyone with similar experience? If so, what's the experience with GFR stabilisation?

2. Is there anyway to reducensure Creatinine and urea level in blood? Anyone been through temporary dialysis to stabilise?

3. Anyone gone through bladder enlargement surgery? If so, what's your experience please?

Please advise.

Good morning morsh

Firstly, congratulations to you both! It's lovely to see such wonderful news on here. I hope your wife and baby are doing well.

My situation is somewhat different to that of your wife's. I had been on dialysis for 2 years when I unexpectedly fell pregnant. It was unheard of back then and I was only 1 of 10 in the world recorded to actually get pregnant and there were no known successful births. My son was born at 7 months and weighed less than 3lbs. He's now a strapping 24 year old!

I have known ladies who needed temporary dialysis for a few weeks post pregnancy until their kidneys recovered from the stress. Unfortunately, I have known more who needed dialysis afterwards because their kidneys did not recover. For me, my function was worse than before the pregnancy, although I was on dialysis anyway so it made no difference really.

I'm sorry I can't give you anything more concrete than this. Everyone is different. All I would say is look after your wife. Make sure she gets all the rest and support she needs. She will be exhausted, more than your average new mum. I truly hope she does not need dialysis for many years to come, if at all. However if she does, please feel free to message me. Or your wife can.

I wish you all the very best. Enjoy your beautiful new baby. Good luck x
