Got my blood test results printed for my by docs, have been diagnosed with a hypo thyroid, BUT on the list it shows my GFR as 90ml/min.

It's even flagged up saying unexpected numerical value, after looking this up it seems this result means CKD stage 1, should this not have been a subject of discussion from my doctor??!!

i would have thought so but from reading other posts on here gp's dont seem 2 think stage 1 is an issue, i would suggest maybe having ur levels checked every few months 2 make sure kidney function stays stable, it may not get any worse

I'll definitely do that, I have to get thyroid levels checked in 3 months so I'll request the kidney function is also checked. Still can't believe that they never mentioned it.

Thanks for your reply

Hi Slj1970

I recently had my eGFR tested and it came back as 87. My doctor said nothing and the nurse who checked the tests had put that no action was necessary! From what I have read, and I hope someone here will correct me if I'm wrong, you have to have other factors like blood or protein in the urine in order to be classified appropriately.

I haven't spoken about it with my doctor, but I shall be doing so and ask to have my urine tested. I have also read that dipsticks won't pick up small amounts of albumin and you need it lab tested.

Anyway, sorry I can't be of more help but I'm sure the more experienced here can give you a more informed answer.

Hi KJay,

Thanks for your reply, that makes sense, I shall be asking for a urine test.

Isn't it strange that they don't seem to take these results any further/not even mention them to you, we're always getting told to see a doctor if you think something is wrong, but when they find things wrong with us that they don't bother to mention it (costs come to mind)!!

Hi Slj1970

I totally agree. I think it's down to money and time as if they do something it will have to be monitored. I wonder why they bother doing the tests in the first place if they are not going to act on the results!

I have had this happen so often and always ask for my test results now although they charge me for it! I was given a Dexa scan recently (my last Dexa scan several years ago had shown osteopenia in the hips and spine) as both my sister and niece have osteoporosis. When I phoned and asked for the results, my doctor wasn't in the practice that day and it was the head of the practice I spoke to. He told me that there was a little bit of bone loss but nothing to worry about. I asked if I could have copies of the results and he went very quiet but couldn't refuse. When I collected the results, I found out that I now have osteoporosis in my spine! So much for a 'little bit of bone loss'!

Good luck Slj1970. I hope you get some satisfaction with your GP x
