Seems you are now in stage 2 [ range 60 to 89 ]

stage 3A [ range 45 to 59 ]

stage 3B [ range 30 to 44 ]

The eGFR can fluctuate , I have been at stage 3B for many years now, and fluctuate between 36/38/44. Have yo had any health issues recently which would cause a fluctuation.

Apart from kidney disease, certain meds, can raise the creatinine also UTI's, which I get a lot of, I also have hypertension which is't good for the kidneys but I do take meds for that.

With an eGFR of 66 I wouldn't worry too much, and as your Dr. is aware of it I'm sure he will keep an eye on you with regular blood tests.

yeah i was thinking it might be due to new heart meds i started .. few weeks ago could of caused it to drop. ? anyway i hope everything goes good for you xx

Thanks bowler you have just answered my query. I am still at Stage 3a and I guess my operation has caused it to decrease. Hope I can get it back to 60. So juls will be at Stage 2 now, brilliant!!

Hi Juls I am really happy for you that your gfr has gone back up to 66, that's brilliant. I am sorry but I don't know how this happens. My gp says increasing your intake of water helps a lot. It has worked with me in the past and has risen from 42 to 60 but my last blood test said 51. This drop happened 4 weeks ago after my knee operation which may be the reason but I am going to wait another 2 weeks and have another blood test to see if it has gone back up. I wonder if anyone on this site can help. If your egfr goes to 60 or above, does this mean you are then at Stage 2? Good luck juls 😊

My GFR has been all over the place. In 2013 it was low 50s then it slowly raised and finally got to 81, but recently dropped to 70 after having shingles. Any kind of infection can cause the drop. Then I got the flu. I'm waiting until I'm back to normal to get retested. My neph said it should probably fluctuate back up again.

My neph suspects that my kidney disease (IGA Nephropathy ) is due to the large amount of inflammation caused by my food intolerances to which I have many. In 2013 I started on gluten free diet and my GFR went up a little, then I discovered I had a bunch of other food intolerances. Once I got those under control and started taking supplements to control the inflammation, my GFR went up to 81. It seems every time I have inflammation from something or another, my GFR drops.

Every person is different, so it's hard to base one person's experience to another, but it does appear that following a kidney friendly diet can help slow down the progress.

Glad to hear you are back in stage 2!

Many blessings and wishing great health for you!

I am exactly where you are. Gfr will fluctuate anywhere from 52 - 70. I asked my nephrologist about it and he told me not to obsess about the number. He said if he were to take 10 separate vials of blood from me each of them would be different. And the range given my age and all other factors would be just that between 52-70. He said there are so many factors why. Time of day.. what I ate .. how hydrated I am .. did I work out that morning or the night before etc. etc I still obsess about the numbers but as long as I remain stable in that range in the end it is just a number in that range. He said I shouldn't be concerned if at times it's 52 because he knows I am still in the range he needs me to stable in. I still honestly obsess about it though.

Good advice from your Doctor. My numbers vary too. There are many factors it appears, different lab, eGFR and GFR. Initially diagnosed was GFR test and tests now are eGFR. . I take all the readings and come up with an average.

Im not worrying about it was just wondering really how it went back up after so long. my doctor has never said nothing about being in any stage really so he wasnt diagnosing me or sending me nowhere fast . My faith in doctors recently is zero.. so ill see how this pans out thank you all for replying and good luck xxx

hi juls .i had kidney desease for 52 years before having a transplant last august all is well....so iv learnt a lot about egfr...it allways varies..the simple way to understand the figures is to say that 50 percent reading is one kidney worki ng at 100 percent...i have one kidney plansplant working at 52 so doing well...drink lots of water..cut out prcessed food which is normaly high in salt for flavour...dont add salt to food..lower red meat intake..and dont worry...regards chris...re toerag
