Thank you for letting me join your group.
Just a couple of questions, please.
I had a blood test: HbA1c last week and again this week. Seeing the result from the first one that was done, I guess I have Diabetes. The result was 8.8. I'm waiting to hear back from the doctor re 2nd test.
Could you please recommend a good diet and exercise plan, as I think I have some muscle loss, as well?
What a shame there isn’t a home testing kit with urinalysis sticks like they do for Bowel cancer. I have so many other health problems I didn’t think it was possible to get anymore.
Thank you.

I think your result is the %-age which would indicate that you do have type 2 diabetes, but it should be confirmed with a fasting blood sugar test.
HbA1c gives a good idea of how well your blood sugars are being controlled over a long period of time and it looks like your body is struggling to regulate blood sugar levels.
In terms of diet and exercise - cut out refined sugars, cut down on more complex carbohydrates (potato, pasta, rice). Bulk out food with fibre (eg lots of fruit and veg). A lot of places to cauliflower substitutes to pasta and rice if you struggle with bulk in your food.

Taking exercise can also help. If you have co-morbidities I would recommend seeing a suitably qualified physiotherapist rather than just trawling the internet for possible regimes though there are some good ones out there - just that a physio should be able to point you to the right exercises much quicker.
If you are diagnosed then your doctor or a nurse should provide you with some dietary advice.
I watched a talk on Friday on the use in the UK of a crash diet system - several weeks of really low calorie intake - that seemed to be very effective in achieving weight loss - post diet gain was still there but it was a bit slower and was starting from a much lower point than a normal diet. This seemed to be very effective in reversing type 2 diabetes. However, it is a medical intervention and definitely something you should discuss with your doctor - particularly if you have other co-morbidities.
Thank you, hopefully I will get a phone call from my Doctor tomorrow, i have seen a nhs physio for knee pain for years, the problem is that the muscle around my knee must have been damaged as I have been doing all the exercises he has given me with no improvement.
I didn’t realise about potato’s rice etc, will follow diet advice from Gp as well
Thanks again
in dietary terms sugars are carbohydrates but when people think of sugar they think of a packet of sugar.sorry about the knee - don't know how long you have been doing the exercises but it could be that things are improving but you haven't started to notice it yet - hope that the appointment goes well.
