Hello, As I have recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes I want to get as much information as I can to help myself. I have been reading as much as possible and understand I have to be careful of carbs. I thought I'd be ok eating fruit, which I love. However, a number of reports say I should restrict these too. I love tomato juice and wonder if this is ok.. I'd like any comments or advice to help me as although I have got over the initial shock of being told this I am now at the stage of trying to work out where I go from here.

Welcome to the group!😀👍 Thank you for introducing yourself.
Have you talked with your doctor or a Nutritionist/Dietician? Did a doctor suggest carb. counting for each meal and snack? When was your last appointment?
Well, after the initial shock of being told that I was prediabetes the doctor said I should have two further tests. So I am waiting to find out the results again. Maybe advice will be given then or maybe I'll be asked to attend a clinic. I don't know what to expect as I'm Pre diabetes at the moment and everything is a bit foggy. I suppose its wait and see.
Here are the leaflets. You can also check the website out. drwf.org.uk/understanding-d...
Thank you so much. I'm feeling so much more confident about my problems since I joined.
You’re welcome! We will be here anytime!😀👍
Would you like to have me send you a message on carb counting and a fake menu? Are you allergic to anything food related?
That would be so helpful. I just hope I will understand the contents as I'm not familiar with diabetic terms yet.
I did the same as you a couple of years ago, diagnosed pre-diabetic, came on this forum and asked. The response I got was to look into the Keto/Low-Carb diets and look at dietdoctor.com, and also Dr Berg's numerous videos on YouTube. I haven't paid or joined anything, just looked at the free stuff.
This advice also agreed with my GP although they didn't reference dietdoctor or Dr Berg directly, just keto/low carb.
Anyhow, I am now just have normal blood sugar, and nowhere near being diabetic. Also down from 14st to 11.11, and down from 38" waste to 32". Everybody I have met who has done the same has had the same results and my GP surgery says it's incredibly successful amongst their patients, something like 80% success rate.
It may not be for you, I'm not a doctor, but this is what I did.
Hope whatever you do works for you.
Thank you I will follow that up.
Well done. For those with pre-diabetes or Type 2 who are overweight, loss of weight can improve insulin sensitivity.
PS. a great source of info is the LCHF forum in healthunlocked...
Unfortunately it says it is no longer available. Shame, sounds useful
Something wrong with link, I'm using the forum every day. Try just searching for the "Low-Carb High-Fat" group in healthunlocked, it should come up hopefully.
Some people can eat fruit and others can't as it spikes their results. I can for instance. We are all different and you have to find what is good for you to eat and what is not. This means you will need to test your blood sugars after eating different things. Takes abiut a year to figure this out. Then armed with this info get on with your life.
I really like your straight forward reply. It is also much more clearer now. The next few months are going to be trial and error for me. I have bought a blood sugar monitor and will shortly start monitoring the results of the food I eat. Hopefully I may only have to make small changes but realise it's in my own interest tot to lose sight of my goals.
Thank you for your re-assurance.

You can see your doctor and get a prescription for your blood testing kit and supplies.😀👍
Knowledge is king. It will tell you on the pkt how many carbs it has. A lot of things have carbs ! Good luck & welcome from a T1 for more than 53 years
Yes I'll have to start looking at labels.
