I use ground linseed. ( I find the whole seeds are not digested & pass straight through me!) Also eating 2 or more prunes has the desired effect. Good luck. Clare
My breakfast consists Grape-nuts, All Bran, a sprinkling of porridge oats and linseeds all soaked overnight in lacto free milk and I'm still "clivealive" and over 75
Sorry if this is TMI but Metformin had the opposite effect on me.
For the constipation I would recommend the ground linseeds, which you could mix into your morning yoghurt or into some orange juice.
Have you heard of OMAD (one meal a day)? The theory behind this is that you give yourself a window of time, IRO 4 hours, and eat only during that time. I am almost finished reading Jason Fung 'The Diabetes Code' which explains a lot about insulin.
Do you have a local Diabetes UK near you? I go to one in Leeds and I find that mixing with other T2D's helps me to pick up tips and not feel so isolated. The talk last month was given by the Consultant Diebetician from Leeds HA. His advice was to go on the 'Newcastle Diet' which was financed by Diabetes UK and researched by Prof Roy Taylor at Newcastle University. Google that and there's loads of information to download. He said do that and Park Run - which you don't have to actually run, you can walk it! You can Google that too and find your nearest group.
It isn't easy. Can you try C25K? I did it through this site and absolutely loved it. I was running 5K 3 times a week and it worked wonders for my morning BS readings. Then I injured myself so can no longer do the running. That said, however, if you can walk that sort of distance regularly it certainly will help you a lot.
There is a lot in the news this week saying that the NHS Healthy Eating plan is not good advice. You do NOT need carbs with every meal - in fact you must steer well clear of them. The lack of carbs will probably not help the constipation though.
The other thing which has a huge effect on my BS readings is stress. Something hard to avoid in this day and age. Meditation or relaxation techniques would help you a lot.
Do not do anything unless you've run it past your health care team first.
Good luck for the journey, it gets better as you become familiar with it all.
Less input = less output. Constipation is as simple as this. What one must do is food swapping and not food reduction. This means that food intake quantity must be maintained with less rich or more roughage items. More discussion is solicited.
It's my experience that once on a grain free diet, constipation and gastrointestinal discomfort go away because with the reduction of carbs in a person's diet, the gastrointestinal inflammation starts subsiding. And as such, we are taking onions, tomatoes and veggies. We take enough fiber albeit it takes some time after going grain free. Nuts and coconut too contain fiber. Still, if constipated, then a person can take isapgul. Purgatives may be avoided, but bulk laxatives are helpful.
