I'm muslim and our annual month of Ramadan starts tomorrow. Most are probably prepared mentally and looking forward to it...like myself except I won't be able to fast again. Because of my diabetes i am unable to. For those with type 2 many do and I was wondering what would be good to eat when? Carby food at sunrise when the fast starts? Or carby food at sunset an the fast ends?

Ramadan
You’re right. When you’re diabetic, you don’t fast. I don’t fast for holidays or in general. I have been asked if I fasted before a blood drawing recently and said, ‘No, I’m not allowed to ‘. If I fast, I will drop too low very fast.
fasting tends to be about sacrifice and discipline. as I understand it you are exempt from fasting for Ramadan if you are sick and I appreciate that that is very difficult because breaking fast is such a communal activity but may be there are things you can do and ways you can contribute that are in the spirit of sacrifice and discipline but won't put you at risk. Do you have an imam that you could talk things through with? and have you discussed with your doctor

most suggest planning well in advance - 2-3 months
Hi Gambit62 Yes your reply makes sense and talking to an imam I haven't really thought about doing yet
My question about the food high in carbs at sunrise when the fast starts or sunset when the fast finishes?
best to avoid high carbs if you are diabetic- more risk of a sugar spike which is what you are trying yo avoid
Have a look at this article on the DRWF website with some links which might be useful. drwf.org.uk/news-and-events...
Thanks very much DRWF for that link. It gave plenty of information and was very interesting 👍🏼
