There are two companies in the UK that sell specialist footwear and socks for people with medical conditions including diabetes, Cosyfeet and Hotter. Have a look at their websites and see what you think. You can call their customer service number if you have any questions, or speak to your DSN or podiatrist.
The shoes and socks they sell are made, so they do not have any internal seams to dig in or rub. This is especially important for people with nerve damage or loss of sensation (neuropathy) in their feet. DRWF have a leaflet with more information about this.
