Glucose Level Variations

I have been type 2 for 14 years and over the last year I have found that my after breakfast readings vary inexplicably. If my pre-breakfast reading is around 6.0 it jumps o 13 or 14, if my early reading is about 7.5 it only goes to 9.5 approx.

For the last 6 mths I have eaten the same breakfast and followed the same procedures during the 2 hrs afterwards.

I'm a type 1 diabetic. I've noticed that my before and after breakfast numbers sometimes do the samething as what you're talking about. I eat the same food every single day, too, but it sometimes doesn't matter. All I do is raise the dose of insulin and sometimes that can lower the numbers before the time I have to eat lunch at 12 noon on weekends and 1 pm during the week at my job. Give it a few days during the week and see if anything changes. If it doesn't work after a few days, talk to your Endo. about the issue. Let us know what happens.

Thanks but I am on tablets and therefore cannot change the dosage. My diabetic nurse just says "We expect a rise after meals".

Oh, but from what to what is the nurse want your numbers to be before and after each meal and snack?

I have a range of 4.0 to 9.0.

What does that convert to in mg/dl?

Sorry I have no idea my diabetic nurse has always talked in mmols.

Multiply mmol value by 18 to get mg/DL value

I have 2 slices of buttered toast and a cup of unsweetened coffe each day. Since it is the same every day I would expect my glucose level to move a similar amount each time.

Thee are protein bars that I eat every day for breakfast. They usually work, but it depends on the wake up numbers. Some days, I wake up in the 200s and other days, in 300s for no good reason. When the numbers are in the 200s, the bars work better. It depends on the person, though. How many carbs are you allowed to eat at breakfast?

The number of carbs have never been set because I can control my wake up numbers with my diet the evening before.

Mornings can get some funny readings. I don't have an answer but I think it depends on what you ate the day before and also quality and quantity of sleep.

But really I have no answer. Just feelings.

O.K. Thank you. I know that what I eat in the evenings, and what time I eat it allows me to control my pre breakfast reading .

Thank you. I have just had a look at dietdoctor.com but every thing points to weight loss as well as sugar control. At 6 feet tall and 10 stone 5 pounds in weight I do not need to lose weight.

I do not have time for reading any more today as I need to give my brother his insulin injection then get his meal ready. The tuitnutrition.com website looks interesting though after a few minutes reading.
