3 moths back my hba1c was 6.3 now i am sure it must by close to 8, haven't checked it yet, getting tests done tomorrow. I have observed that even after no significant change in diet i am getting high bg. Yesterday I had a lassi at 4.30 pm and at 6.30pm my bg was 198. For lunch i just had curd and ladyfingers. For breakfast on daily basis i take 2 egg bhurji, some peanuts, butter, pomegranate, beetroot and a glass of lassi. For dinner just salad; broccoli, capsicum and paneer sautéed in olive oil and sprinkle of apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. Also, in the last about 40 days i have gained 5 kg weight, on this diet only. I am 51, 6 feet tall, had my weught around 74 now it is 79. Worried 😟. I never took any meducines fir for my diabetes type 2, controlled it with food only. What to do? Please help.

Hi Atulvats ,

How can you assume your HbA1c might around 8+(%) now?

I'm in a very similar situation as you when it comes to weight gain. I have gained around 3 kgs in 6-8 months without any major diet change. I'm puzzled as well. I take emmer wheat meal two times a day and this might be the culprit. I'm planning to switch to little millets as I have observed on multiple days that eating stomach full of millets does not result in increase in weight the next day morning.

Some interesting observation is that when I have some besan-based snacks in the evening and then have usual emmer wheat meal for dinner, it does not result in much of weight gain.

Reduce weight to less than 74 kg. If the lassi is with added sugar, better avoided. Beetroot is loaded with sugar, so, do avoid it.

Have you talked to your doctor about the weight gain? Did the doctor say that your A1c is up/down since the last 3-4 months? Do you go outside for walks each day/evening? If you aren’t able to go out because of COVID, you can do walking up/down the steps in the house each morning/evening. Hope this helps!😀👍🌈

As per research, Saturated fat and Protein from animal sources increase risks of insulin resistance , though you may find your blood sugar under control for a short term.IR remains dormant , though it may give you an indication that blood sugar under control.

If IR remains dormant / latent , it may cause all diabetic complications including weight gain all of a sudden . You may please refer previous posts of mine where a lot of links are given leading to this topic.

Note Before: Obviously consult doctor for technical advice.

As per my experience handling Type-2 with diet alone. Try to avoid animal based fat products. It is given to understand that in purest form without any harmone injection during the process animal growth and milk processing etc[mean fully organic milk based], the fat come from the yogurt top layer should be good and in moderate quantities. (no specific source of technical report with me on this fact, but its given to understand from great grand parents and carrying the message to generation...). So, if you cannot ascertain whether its that much pure, better AVOID the milk based/animal based fats it.

Try to eat as much as low-carb green veggies and limited and controlled quantities of nuts, should be fine.

The actual culprit is fatty liver and thus insulin resistance. So, weight watching is more important.

Be alert and take precautions always and SHOULD have control on dietary habits.

Millets (foxtail, little, barnyard, kodo, browntop) are the best for sugar control/regulated release. Replace wheat, rice with only millets. and slowly you like them. i started taking millets since 1 week.

i also managing through diet only. recent results (22 March 2021) show HbA1c is 6.1%. Fasting BG is 5.7 mmol/L. not that i am really fully healthy now, but so far so good.

all the best.
