Drop in HbA1C....so happy

I checked my HbA1C today after 4 months. So happy to find that it's dropped from 7.1 to 6.7!

Whatever you are doing must have worked. Please do analyze, understand what has gone well for you and share with us. I know the feeling when HbA1c drops. Feels like you have scored a goal.

Yes! You got it exactly right! It does feel like I not only scored a goal but won the match!

What I did differently in the last 4 months was completely stop eating rice at all meals, have only a bowl of papaya/ melon at night and stepped up walking. My average distance per month is 120 Kms.

It must have worked! Yay!

Hi, my hba1c was 5.5 four months before but now 6.7.i don't know what went wrong. Is 6.7ok

I'm really sorry to hear that your HbA1C has increased so much in just 4 months. Possible reasons are that your blood sugar has jumped for some reason- could be your diet during the last 4 months or stress. Another possible reason could be a wrong reading by the diagnosis center. I can suggest a repeat test at a NABH or NABL approved lab. A proper lab is very essential.

I was taking tablets for hemoglobin for the past three months. Only after that my hba1c raised. Is it possible bcoz of that tablet

My hemoglobin was 7.6 ,after taking tablets it went to 13

Hi gettingolder123 ,

Congratulations on the drop in A1c! That's fantastic news! Did you cut anything else out of the diet (along with rice)?

I've been walking for over a year, now and the weight has gone down slightly. The A1c for me is still higher than I would like it, but I keep at it until it can get to at least 7.0. The last time I had the A1c done, the lab said I was 9.7 (I think). Not happy with that at all.

Umm, let me see...added a lot more water, started on fenugreek seeds,garlic and basil leaves early in the morning, made sure my gut is clear so added physillium husk, drank diluted yogurt a few times a day...stuff like that.

Two or three tablespoons of yogurt, mix with plain water and glug up. Very simple.

I guess flavoured yogurt will have sugar in it. Hence best avoided. I use yogurt that I make at home but I suppose you could use any yogurt. Commercial ones usually have renin and I personally hate the stringy consistency.

Hi Durham24,

Sure I'll post my typical foods in a day.

1. Early morning I drink fenugreek water before I go for a walk. After I come back, I eat the soaked fenugreek seeds with one clove of garlic, two or three basil leaves, two soaked almonds and 1 walnut.

2. I don't eat breakfast but I love my cup of coffee ( a cup of double toned milk, a spoonful of coffee, no sugar) which I have with 3 country bakery cookies. I'm slowly cutting down on the cookies and plan to go without in about a couple of weeks (I do love them, will be sad to let them go, but they aren't doing me any good!)

3. Mid morning I have a guava or apple

4. Lunch is one roti (Indian flat baked bread) with the normally cooked vegetables and a piece of fish.

5. Dinner is a bowl of ripe papaya or water melon or musk melon.

Once a week I do a liquid fast which involves bitter gourd juice, and/or other vegetable juices and diluted yogurt.

That's pretty much all. Basically, I'm on one regular meal a day.

Hope you find this useful.

(One good thing about India is that unlike the US or Europe, the opportunity to indulge temptation is not available at every street corner. I think that really helps in keeping off the donuts and cookies and caramel mocha...)

That’s right. Not everything is going to work the same way for everyone. A doctor has to be consulted before a person changes diets and/or exercise routines.

Hi Admin, these are some very good insights. I think it shall be good if we have a brief profile of the members (like Linkedin), which talks about their age, BMI, etc. This background can be helpful .e,g. what works for an age group. Do you think that would be useful

Metformin extended release 500 mg 3 times a day plus amaryl 1mg in the morning. This is for diabetes. I'm also hypothyroid and have elevated cholesterol and triglycerides for which there are other meds.

( Gosh, that's a LOT!)

Soak the fenugreek water overnight, strain add some lemon juice to water drink and then chew the fenugreek seeds see the impact

Thanks. 6.0 looks like a stretched target, given my preference of going without medicine. As many say that medicine has side effects. I tried low carb but it began to refkect on my skin and hair.

Are you sure 'Gujarat is the world capital of Diabetics' ? As per link below the states of Karnataka, Punjab, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura have higher percentage of diabetics.

Also, prevalence of T2D in Gujarat is less than or comparable to that of USA where over 9.4% population have diabetes. This is not to undermine the efforts to improve the situation in Gujarat but to put it in right perspective.

There is compelling evidence- more prosperous we are, more likely we are to have T2D. We need to be more aware of healthy lifestyle to tackle this issue.

One should consider the percentage of population affected and not the absolute number. Both India and USA have around 9.4 - 9.5% of population as diabetics. India being a populous country, the absolute number will be higher.

Curious about one thing....so many things to be taken 'early morning on an empty stomach'......does one take them all together or might it be better to do a few days of this and a few days of that and repeat the cycle?
