Regarding HDL

Hi,

I just got my whole body checkup done and got some good results. My current hba1c is 5.9 (Detected at 7.8 last year) without any allopathic meds. Cholestrol and all parameters seem good. Only concern is my HDL is low i.e 134 . I dont want to take fish till september. Anything else that can be helpful ? TIA :)

There seems to be some problem with your HDL value. HDL value of 60 mg/dl is considered very good. Below 40 mg/dl is considered not good. 50 mg/dl is just ok. How come 134 is too low? Are you sure you are reporting the correct figure?

Okay, that makes sense. Use extra virgin coconut oil in your daily cooking. Aim for consuming 30-50 gm coconut oil per day. Adjust the calories intake by reducing carb and other oil which you may be using. Coconut oil in small quantity can be consumed directly also.

Extra virgin coconut oil of which brand is best? Is patanjali's good one?

These are marketing gimmicks used by various suppliers. I use what is locally available in the health food store. It is cold pressed type. You will have more options. After all, coconut oil is being used as a cooking medium in many parts of India. There are other members who use coconut oil. They can provide more information.

I use fresh coconut meat also in place of oil. It contains one third oil.One has to count the carb in that.

If you want more information about coconut oil, please read the following:

Hi , It is a complete lifestyle change that I did . I was slow and steady without losing y mind and staying focused. I just gave up sugar completely . Quit taking high carbs and replaced it with good fats like eggs ,homemade peanut butter, ghee, nuts and seeds ,fishlots of vegetables , salads ,I also I included dahi and buttermilk. Started taking supplements like b12,iron,calcium,vitd,multivitamin,Neem capsules and biotin . Took lots of plain lemon water and included green tea. Jamun karela juice early morning empty stomach . The main part is exercising . I joined a gym and managed to lose 12 kgs ,focussing on cardio and doing weights esp those that involve lower abdomen . Idea is to lose fat and gain muscles.

Hope it helps

Thankyou

Congratulations, Shailajaa . Thanks for sharing the information. That is wonderful approach to control blood sugar and lose weight. Approach is very flexible in terms of carb consumption as per individual's carb tolerance. Keep it up.

My HDL was also low, I increased it to 71 by doing regular exercise and eating coconut & Walnuts. I found staircase climbing is the best to increase HDL.

As per my knowledge one has to be in ketosis and with carb intake not more than 20gms a day and really strict with what veggies ans fruits to take . I found it not so doable with a small kid to take care of .Also still want to be in sync with what is cooked in a normal family. I still take atleast 2 rotis in a day along with all veggies , low GI fruits etc . So it's moderation of protein, fats ans complex carbs that is working for me .

Okaaay! I don't know if the diet I follow falls into LCHF indian version. Thing is what I do is working good for me and it's feasible . That's what matters at the end of the day.

I think you should rethink about taking roties. Wheat should be dropped first.

Hello Coffeeday:

Thanks for info.

Could you please name some of the powders with dosage for the benefit of the members in this forum.

I follow (atleast try to follow) LCHF and stay in control as of now, if NOT fully.

LCHF really works (and gives confidence) and congratulations to Shailajaa for staying very focused which was missing in my case partly.

I do take some pills of Pathanjali. (Madhunashini Vati).

Dont know how good or bad it is.

However, no side-effects though.
