Goole search will get tons of advice. In the list of top ten HDL enhancers majority have walnut and walnut oil in top three. ALA, fatty/oily fish also seem to be preferred sources along with Linseed etc.

Mere increasing HDL is not going to help. Lowering triglycerides and LDL is also important. Even low LDL is also useless in assessing CHD risk. The LDL particle no. (no. of LDL particles in serum blood) is the most critical marker in CHD. Lowering carb intake is one of the route to correct lipids. Genetic factors also affect lipids.

It is what we were advised by our cardiologist, since we have history of CV disease, more than likely if we have issues with cholesterol lvl, erratic blood pressure, CV disease more than likely it is genetic. So merely increasing the HDL count is not going to help, it has to be a normal count of LDL-Cholesterol, HDL-Cholesterol, LDL-Particle and even triglyceride as they all have a role to perform in the body.

I was on and off on statins but can't rely on them every time my cholesterol level become abnormal. One thing that works for me for these past couple of months is the fish oil that my husband is taking(visiongroupcorp.com/omega3.... they said it also act as a blood thinner and these Omega 3s also act as anti-inflammatory(good for the heart and the aching joints), same effect of that aspirin that I am taking for years.

Though for some of us where Abnormal Cholesterol level and Cardiovascular disease is cause by genetic disorder that doesn't mean we can't nothing about it. My cardiologist further advised that healthy lifestyle, dietary planning and exercise proves to have great impact to our cholesterol count and may further reduce the risk of CV disease and these are something that we can control. But I am just confused what diet plan to follow, there are numerous post out there that claims Vegan is the best diet or Lo Carb/high Fat diet or Paleo Diet. With these so many claims, i am wondering which diet are the best to benefit heart health and cholesterol level?
