I got a forwarded message that the American Diabetes Assn. has announced that the HB1AC between 7 to 8 is non-diabetic, now.
Any comments from our group experts?

I'm just curious, could you please let us know when HBA1C levels of 7 to 8 were considered as normal in the history?
Could you point me to some research papers which proves your point? I'm genuinely interested
Hello Venkat-1810 ,
1. There is no announcement by ADA ( American Diabetic Association) as mentioned in your Whatsapp message.
2. There are proposed guidelines reported by American College of Physicians (ACP) on 6th March 2018 to this effect, however, the message is not exactly like your whatsapp message.
3. It does not say or mean that people with HbA1c between 7 and 8 % are non-diabetic. What they are proposing is that HbA1c target level for Type 2 diabetics should be between 7 and 8 %. Current HbA1c target level by several health agencies are 7% or lower.
4. HbA1c target should be individualised based on risks, benefits, age and cost of treatment.
5. HbA1c of 6.5% and above is still treated as diabetics as before.
Please open the link below to read the guidance in detail:

Personally, I will not lose my sleep if my HbA1c is between 7 and 8% but will work towards bringing it down to less than 6%.
I agree with venkat.
My knowledge on this is zilch I just posted and wanted opinion of some of the very knowledgeable members in this group as I am myself is diabetic
Can Mr gangadharan comment on this
some years back one of my office staff suffered giddiness and swooned. We took him to a nearby diabetic clinic .When checked his b/s reading was 114 .the doctor told us that the glycemic level below 120 may be low sugar in this case. On regaining conscious he told that he should maintain sugar level above 125.So it differs on individual case.May be this was an exception.
With due respect to you all. Medicine is a logic. The values are decided considering following logic. The bg levels in normal nonD people are fasting <100, preferably @85 and ppbs never more than 120 at any time. The a1c values for them are 4.2-5.6. That's what we as D have to chase / achieve. Any higher values will lead to higher complication rates.
I have a different view. Yes. Medical is a science but logic has to be applied. The values are always reference values but the chances of complications increase when the readings are out of range. And yes. it's science. And applies more or less to all irrespective of race ethnicity etc. But you are right there are variations depending upon genes the environment eating habits and lifestyle. But once D occurs it's that very science that cause complications. T2d is not because of damage to beta cells to which i think you are referring. Any reading above 140 at anytime should be viewed with care. There is a little difference between 140 and 145 albeit 145 should be taken as warning if not high and abnormal. In such cases 1 hour pp values should be considered to evaluate Insulin Resistance.
