Very interesting advice, thanks rvmasalvad for posting. In my opinion, daily checking BG several times as needed is essential for diabetics. The good daily BG control means the good average BG that leads to good A1C number. It's so true that if you are not assessing, you're guessing. Hence, we do need to act properly and try our best to keep good control of our BSL.

Thank you for posting this educative article.I have three points of interest

1.Testing five times becomes tedious, painful and rather expensive.I do not also see much value in it,as long as you are following other diabetes management guidelines scrupulously.

2.Target A1c level is indicated as 8 MMOL/L.I feel it could be tolerance level and between 6 and 7 as target level.

3.One episode of hypo throws me off track for more than a day.3 to 4 mild hypos a week,I think are too much to handle if someone is on insulin.

These are my two cents.

Target A1c level is 8 MMOL/L or percentage? I think HbA1c test is expressed in percentage...right? and Average blood sugar in mg/dl here in India. So, what's the target level in percentage and mg/dl?

You are right.BS levels in mg/dl and HbA1c as percentage.Regarding reference range, for a diabetic,7% was considered good control earlier and above that one is supposed be in danger level.During my latest interaction with my clinic,I was told that safe limit is accepted as 7.5%.Recently,American College of Physicians have given latest guidelines on this subject. They say 8% is a safe limit but linked it with remaining life span of the individual. Please google search for their guidelines.Personally,I have kept a target of 6.5% for myself,to be absolutely safe
