My fbs had been 100 to 110 since a month and PPBS was 140 to 160 without medicine. My hba1c last month was 6.3 .When diagnosed 4 months ago,it was 7.2.i started taking 250 mg metformin few days before.i hv fbs 120 to 127 and PPBS 150 to 160.though I hv omitted grains and other carbs from diet.i m surprised that the medication is giving unexpected result.i 've started taking metformin SR 500 o.d from today.any suggestions in this regard?

Fasting blood sugar (FBS) should be less than 100 mg/dL.

Postprandial blood sugar (PPBS) must be less than 140 mg/dL.

You should pay more attention to diabetic diet and aerobic exercise.

1. Please follow low carbs & low fat diet

2. Regular physical exercise of atleast 1hours/day

3. Continue Metformin 250mg morning and night (5-10mins before food)

4. Please purchase a glucometer & check the sugars for PRE-BREAKFAST, PRE-LUNCH & PRE-DINNER on alternate days for 3days & send me the value

As per the details you have posted your HbA1C has been reduced to normal levels. The tablet is working. Only thing is you should take tablets regularly without skipping even a single day.

I shall advice you if required to stop the Medicine as per your sugar readings

Dr Gajendra ,the lowering of hba1c has been achieved prior to starting metformin.i am surprised that ever since I started taking metformin, b.s has gone up.i will post the b.s. readings as required by you.my concern is why did metformin altered normal b.s. levels to higher one?

in reply toManie

Yes I can understand your concern. It is difficult to advice half way. So to start with Keep taking Metformin 250mg morning and night as advised by me & then check your sugar readings with glucometer & drop me the readings. Then I can easily assess with no time

Ok thanks .I will do it.i also suffer from numbness in legs and hands alongwith headache towards occipital lobe of head.hv burning sensation in legs too.i m taking pregabalin 25,meconerve Plus and calcium pantothenate.i 've not yet assessed b12 level. Will get it done.i can relate headaches to anxiety developed after being diagnosed 4 months ago .but I am uncomfortable due to numbness and tingling.i m also facing depression and hv been suggested to take petril ds. Whenever I discuss these problems with doctors they say that this peripheral neuropathy is the found in patients with long uncontrolled diabetes.so mine is due to ill absorption of b12.but I m not sure.

Get your Vitamin B-12 & Vitamin D levels

Take T.Tryptomer 25mg daily in the night. If there is any too much drowsiness the next day then, take the tablet on alternate days. Keep taking tablets for 15days

In the meantime send me your Vitamin B-12 & D reports

in reply to

The content of TRYPTOMER is AMYTRYPTILLINE

I am sorry that I forgot to tell you the generic name

Any drug with that generic content would do

High fat is never recommended as the diabetes itself probes for increase in Triglyceride levels.

For proper diet chart please do visit a dietician, who can help you with balanced diet. It is difficult to explain in detail

Will get it done.however I.R is below 2.i 've cut on carbs substantially however I fat content needs to be enhanced. I was better off medicine but had to take it due to neuropathy. BTW what is the cost of b12 and fasting insulin tests?

in reply toManie

Vitamin B-12 will cost you 1000rs & Vitamin D levels will cost you another 1000rs approximately in good labs

No need for fasting insulin levels

Yes sir LCHF is very much useful.

Fats available as natural is what is recommended.

My context of high fat is in terms of fried foods, fast foods

Hence it needs to be differentiated properly before you give a advice to any Patient.

Anyways I appreciate your contribution in the discussion sir

Please read my message sir

I never said carbohydrates increase Triglyceride. I said diabetes predisposes to increase in Triglyceride levels due to non availability of energy source for the cells.

Due to lack of sugar entry at cellular levels, which happens in diabetes due to lack of insulin, mobilizes fat stored in the body for utilization of energy. Hence triglycerides increase

I think it's better you the message in detail before you give a detailed advice

But I seriously appreciate your contribution

Thanks

I am talking in terms of control of diabetes to the patient. Not talking in terms of diet to the patient.

No actually I m waiting to get vco.i was taking butter, extra virgin olive oil and ghee but moderate not high.i take cheese, eggs, walnuts, almonds, flax seeds.once I get vco fat consumption will go up,.i can't take cream. Just like I became grainfree I will liberal on fats too.

Type 2 is mainly due to insulin resistance.

Even if the fasting insulin levels or anytime taken will be either normal or higher

No role in treatment. The Treatment is to overcome the insulin resistance

So it an unnecessary test

You need to tell me what u suspecting in the patient that u need the fasting insulin levels & it's relationship to treatment??

There is no awareness regarding preventing diabetes .no one tells high risk people with family history of diabetes to go for fasting insulin test.no awareness about people being affected at early ages .even I was thinking that diabetes strikes after late fifties as my mother acquired it in 60.so I was not alert.had I monitored b.s earlier perhaps I could hv delayed the onset of disease.we always blame fat and never suspect carbs, the real culprits.its deplorable that all concern is with treatment and no worries about prevention.

Its unbelievable that scientists hv not been able to find a cure for insulin resistance. Money is in treatment not cure...

Many doctors treAt insulin deficient type 2 patients

When they stop taking insulin by cutting carbs then dr Vijay raghvan claims to hv cured type 1 patient

Dr biswaroop recommends jungle diet full of fructose to diabetics so has been given best diabetes doctors award recently.

Another M.D medicine doctor from panipat is following biswaroop footsteps oblivious of the fact that fructose will cause fatty liver.

Jeena seekho and Kirpashakti ayurved claim medicine free life after taking 4-6months medicine.making videos as testimonies.

Cheating people who r already suffering

Many diabetes forums hv been turned on payment mode which is not advisable.

My tab. Has 1oo mg ala only.is 300 or 600 mg strength available online?I recently talked to my cousin who is an anaesthetist .He told me that ala has been found ineffective for neuropathy as per latest studies.my Bhabi, a doctor in Australia recommended lyrics.my brother in Law,a surgeon at Australia advised injectable b12 as he says that oral doses are poorly absorbed sometimes..

Isn't it mind boggling?

Manie profile image
