Vegetarian south Indian food is loaded with carbohydrates that spike the sugar levels.Shift to lower glycemic foods like pulses, sprouts, dairy, nuts etc that do not spike the blood sugar instantly.Search on the net to find food items with low to moderate glycemic index.Youtube gives you plenty of videos showing methods to prepare the dishes.Limit intake of breakfast and go for a pre noon snack like fruit/nuts/boiled sprouts.Limit lunch and dinner intake also and go for light snacks in between.Avoid sugar totally. You should reach A1c of close to 6.5.

Start trying to do walking around the neighborhood first slowly and increase as far as you go each day. Once you get use to the new exercise routine, it will be very easy and lots of fun!

Fasting blood sugar should be less than 100 mg/dL. More than 130 mg/dL is abnormal.

Postprandial blood sugar should be less than 140 mg/dL. More than 180 mg/dL is abnormal.

Composition for Amaryl 2 mg(brand name) is glimepiride (generic name).

Glimepiride is used along with diet and exercise, and sometimes with other medications, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Glimepiride lowers blood sugar by causing the pancreas to produce insulin (a natural substance that is needed to break down sugar in the body) and helping the body use insulin efficiently. This medication will only help lower blood sugar in people whose bodies produce insulin naturally.

Composition for Dynaglipt M 500mg/20mg Tablet

is Metformin (500mg), Teneligliptin (20mg)

Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood.

Teneligliptin is a pharmaceutical drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to the class of anti-diabetic drugs known as dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors or "gliptins". (A third generation drug). DPP-4 inhibitors can cause hypoglycemia, joint pain, heart failure and pancreatic cancer.

Losar-H contains the active ingredients Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide.

Losartan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Losartan is also used to decrease the risk of stroke in people who have high blood pressure and a heart condition called left ventricular hypertrophy (enlargement of the walls of the left side of the heart). Losartan may not decrease the risk of stroke in African Americans who have these conditions. This medication is also used to treat kidney disease in people who have type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) and high blood pressure. Losartan is in a class of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently.

Hydrochlorothiazide is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat edema (fluid retention; excess fluid held in body tissues) caused by various medical problems, including heart, kidney, and liver disease and to treat edema caused by using certain medications including estrogen and corticosteroids. Hydrochlorothiazide is in a class of medications called diuretics ('water pills'). It works by causing the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine.

Composition for Ecosprin AV 75 Capsule

is Atorvastatin (20mg) & Aspirin(ASA) (75mg).

Atorvastatin is used together with diet, weight loss, and exercise to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke and to decrease the chance that heart surgery will be needed in people who have heart disease or who are at risk of developing heart disease. Atorvastatin is also used to decrease the amount of fatty substances such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol ('bad cholesterol') and triglycerides in the blood and to increase the amount of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol ('good cholesterol') in the blood. Atorvastatin may also be used to decrease the amount of cholesterol and other fatty substances in the blood in children and teenagers 10 to 17 years of age who have familial heterozygous hypercholesterolemia (an inherited condition in which cholesterol cannot be removed from the body normally). Atorvastatin is in a class of medications called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins). It works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body to decrease the amount of cholesterol that may build up on the walls of the arteries and block blood flow to the heart, brain, and other parts of the body.

Adopt insulin therapy in consultation with your diabetologist.

You may undergo the following clinical tests periodically.

A: HbA1c. HbA1c is a lab test that shows the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the previous 3 months. It shows

how well you are controlling your diabetes. 2--4 times per annum)

B: Control your high Blood pressure, if any. Normal blood pressure- <120/80 mmHg.

(Quarterly examination)

C: Control your blood Cholesterol: Normal cholesterol < 200 mg/dL. LDL <100 mg/dL HDL > 40 mg/dL Triglyceride < 150 mg/dL. (annual check-up). Serum creatinine may also be done.

D: Diabetic education. Dental check-up should be done in every 6 months.

E: Eye examination annually for glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and cataract.

F: Foot examination

(1--2 times / year by physician and daily check-up by the patient.

G: Glucose monitoring. Fasting or postprandial blood sugar may be checked daily and avoid foods that elevates blood sugar.

H: Health maintenance immunization against influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia.

I: Indications for specialty care. Heart, kidney (estimate Glomerular filter rate), thyroid may be checked periodically by concerned specialists. (annual examination)

Should the medications being taken be changed?

By adopting insulin therapy, you can eliminate anti-diabetic medication and it's side effects.
