I haven't succeeded much in my LCHF dieting attempts. I am now planning to do IM, starting with 5:1 for a few weeks and if OK increase to 5:2. After dinner around 9 pm I plan to start eating the next night around the same time. I take the following medications:
1. Dibizide M - 1/2 - 0 - 1/2.
2. Telpres CT 40/6.25 - 1 - 0 -- 0.
3. Clyciphage 250 - 0 - 1 - 0.
4. Atorvastatin/Ecosprin AV 75 - 0 0 - 1.
5. Multivits - 0 - 0 - 1.
After my dinner and the night medications I plan to begin my fast till next night. I am planning to skip that night's medication too and begin my meds only the next morning as I want to be off meds as long as safely possible. I know this is a trial and error method. Any comments? Thanks.
Fasting has no relevance for a diabetic.Since you are already under medication.there is always a lurking danger of hypo. What is really needed is a fine balance between diet, physical activity, orderly lifestyle and medicines.
If you think about fasting for 24 hours then avoid medicine
Thank you indeed for your response. I do hope others on IF would tell me of their experiences when starting as I don't feel very confident and the doctor isn't much help!
Actually I plan to do 5:1 fast and I hope to go on to 5:2 in two or three weeks after checking out 5:1 first. I am first going to skip all meds that day. At night I plan to have a light low carb dinner and restart meds only from bf the next day.
Yes, Telpres is for hypertension which has been between 130 & 120 and 70 & 80 for more than 5 or 6 years. Recent FBS: 123 and PPBS: 117. HbA1C: 6.4%. Cholesterol: 119. Triclycerides: 129. HDL: 45. LDL: 48.2. Creatinine: 1.9. TSH: 1.18.
After I started taking Dibizide M about 2 years ago I started getting hypos around 2 hrs after bf. No problems after dinner - I go to bed very late 3 or 4 hours after dinner. I never had hypos when I was taking metformin alone!
I had earlier come on this forum to discuss the anomaly of my very low LDL and I think I'm taking too much statin though my doctor doesn't think so. I will stop Ecosprin AV 75 (which contains 10 mg statin) and split it into a baby aspirin and Atorvastatin 5 mg and see how it goes for a few months till I meet the doctor again..
During Ramadan 16 hours fasting I have seen that my suger level remains controlled.I skip medicine one time.mind you its 30 days 16 hours fasting. So I feel 6:1day fasting is good.Better skip medicine during this.Thanks.
Sir, Jason Fung is the man who propagated this theory. Actually during fasting sugar remains low so should not take medicine, which may cause hypo. So why not start fasting in the beginning 16 hrs a day preferably on sunday so that little work are to be attended.Later on 24 hrs can be achieved. But measure sugar level during this time at least 2 times.Thanks.
