Though Red Wine in limited quantity ( one small glass) is good for health but the extra calories in wine need to be balanced by sacrificing some food. 21 units of alcohol maximum per week are allowed which converts into max one and a half peg of small peg (30 ml) of whiskey subject to adjustment of empty calories of alcohol from food. However for alcohol intake take advice of Doctor and per day limit is not to be exceeded. Instead of whiskey Wine, Beer or any other liquor can be replaced.

Alcohol does no good to diabetics. It adds useless calories to your system that you have to account for.It can cause both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, unless one extremely moderate. It is the second most important thing that should given up by a diabetic, smoking being number one.

Beer , wine and few other alcoholic drinks are not good for diabetics. Only Vodka in moderation can be taken. If you can avoid Alcohol totally it will be good.

Essentially there are two types of alcoholic drinks. One is distilled variety like whiskey, vodka, rum etc and another variety brewed like beer, wine, ale etc.Country liquor is distilled and palm toddy is brewed stuff.Fascinating subject, but less known, the better.

The French people drink wine every day and it seems that they are much healthier than their counterparts in Europe.
