It may appear to be a funny question ,but it may provide information regarding your blood sugar control . In ancient times urine was used as a diagnostic tool for diabetes.
Has any one specially a diabetic ever tried... - Diabetes India
Has any one specially a diabetic ever tried to consciously smell his own urine over a period of time ? Have they noticed any change ?
As per my knowledge if there is too much glucose in blood (>200) then there will be some glucose excreted through urine. Even that will be less (just 1-2%) and glucose doesn't have any smell. So I think once can't use smell for diagnosis.
You are absolutely right. We have got accurate and simple tools for making a diagnosis of diabetes. In old days doctors used to taste urine for sweetness to diagnose diabetes.
Normally we do not consciously smell own urine, but every body is aware of smell of urine. So if there is change in smell of urine which is persisting over a period of time ,does it signify some thing ? Does the smell changes if blood sugar remains persistently high ? Returning to normal smell if bs is within normal limits ?
डॉ या वैद्य चखते नही थे।पेशाब किये गए स्थान पर अगर चींटी इकट्ठी होती थी तब मधुमेह मान लिया जाता था।
You will be amazed that many doctors actually tasted urine to determine the sweetness.
Yes, this is by far the best test. When urine dries up , sugar crystal can be seen attracting ants. Even the change of spot for urination will repeatedly reveal the same history
Very true. But what about odour, any observation ?
TO me this question is not at all funny!!! In the Olden days chines used to check the Urine by placing it near the Ant Hills and check if Ants are coming to Urine they used to say that sugar levels are high.
now some time i also used to feel when passing the urine, sugar levels might be high or low depending on the smell. but i don;t know whether this is correct. but the results are correlating with accu-check results on high or low basis.
Yes, the smell is different than normal urine. we can judge if the sugar level is increased surely from smell.
Yes,in old days if aunts were seen round about in the urine of person fell on ground ,he or she was diagnosed with sugar( called those days). ,but the actual damage would have been already done to the concerned person. due to late diagnosing.Sugar equal or more than 180mg/dl.is extracted in urine through kidneys.,
One of Ayurveda ( Vaid) called those days used to drink his own urine in our locality.
Yes, even today ,if ants are attracted to the urine , people get alerted for diabetes .
What is your take on relationship between changing blood sugar levels and change in odour of urine.
