Different people react differently to the same amount of stress in life.

for some people normal every day life is just too much and they can not cope or tolorate it without the help of anxiety decreasing drugs such as alprazolam or alcohol.

Unfortunately regular daily use of both; leads to developing tolorance and addiction and if deprived to withdrawl.

Real and effective treatment requires multiple modalities, that are difficult to obtain and to accept for a person.

First alprozalam or any other benzodiazapines should be the last, and NOT the first drug of choice in treatment of anxiety on a regular basis.

FIRST drug to be given should be an antideprasant ie. remeron (mirtazapine) or lexapro, or trazadone etc.

SECOND drug to be added in addition to antidepressant is a mood stablizer, such as divalproex sodium ( Depakote ER ) AND If these are not enough to relieve the anxiety then the

THIRD medication to be added is an antipsychotic such as aripiprazole ( abilify )

These three class of medications should be used regularly for maintainance treatment.

THE ALPRAZOLAM SHOULD BE USED INFREQUENTLY FOR BRAKETHROUGH ANXIETY TO BE EFFECTIVE AND APPROPRIATE ( IE. FOR PANIC ATTACKS, A REAL PANICATTACKS WITH ACCOMPANYIG PHYSICAL SYMPTOMC SUCH TACHYCARDIA, DIFFICULTY BREATHING, SEVERE SWEATING .AND NOT WHAT THE PATIENT IMAGINES TO BE PANIC ATTACKS.

TREATMENT OF GENERALISED ANXIETY WITH OR WITHOUT PANIC ATTACKS, WITH OR WITHOUT AGEROPHOBIA IS A COMPLICATED UNDERTAKING.

GIVING SOMEONE ALPRAZOLAM AS THE FIRST AND ONLY DRUG AND TREATMENT IS AS EQUIVLANT AS ASKING THEM TO USE ALCOHOL, ONLY, TO TREAT THEIR ANXIETY.

NOT TO MENTION VARIOUS FORMS OF THERAPY SUCH AS RELAXATION EXCERSIISES, YOGA ETC THAT MUST BE USED AT THE SAME TIME.

AS for the person going for surgery they seem to be undergoing benzodiazapine withdrawl, same as if they were addicted to alcohol and were undergoing alcohol withdrawl.
