Interaction of diabetes and psychiatric disorder is multifaceted and probably most overlooked. Some of the psychiatric disorders of particular relevance with regard to diabetes include Dilirium, Depression, Anxiety Disorders and anxiety disorders like Schizophrenia etc.
Dilirium-- in diabetes Dilirium could present either in hypo or hyper active form. The person is EXCITED and talks IRRELEVANTLY . Additionally he suffers from confusion, disorientation, hallucination and THOUGHT DISTURBANCES.
Depression -- talked many times in this forum ,an established connection with diabetes.
Anxiety disorders -- these include PANIC Disorder and OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE Disorder. Found to be three times higher in diabetics than general population.
Schizophrenia - an established relationship with diabetes.
All of the above mentioned are reflected in the writings of a very few on this forum. All these people must get themselves treated properly by endocrinologist as well as by psychiatrics. The sufferer might not know it but his near and dear ones must be very watchful, lest the sufferer may end in a mental asylum.
