Hi everyone, moaning sesssion.........

I have dystonia secondary to PD. Lucky girl :)

I like to be active with my yoga etc. but as soon as try and do a little cardio I take a nose dive fatigue wise and totally wipe out sleeping all day for few days and the calf muscle on my right leg clenches rock hard pulling right up into my glute and side.

If I massage the right side of my body I can actually feel like little hard beads which are painful when pressed under the skin on shins, calves, back of knee, IT Band and around the pelvis. Does anyone know what this is?

This is so grrr as I want to keep moving, stabilise my weight and keep fit to put up a good fight :)

I have a mix of Sinemet Standard, Sinemet controlled release, Madopar Boosters and Baclofen to work with to try and sort this out. The fatigue has lifted after a 2 day sleep in but the clenched calf muscle goes for a few hours and comes back. Plus it throbs after the strain. I am putting on a support on and off for relief as I have have experienced strained, sprained ligaments, muscles in the past which are excrutiating and I am totally laid up.

How do I tackle this effectively going forwards any suggestions?

My Neurologist says Boost, boost boost. But I end up rattling with a build up of dopamine.

I have been doing the following med schedule:-.

7am, Sinemet standard plus baclofen 10mg..

10am, standard plus vitamins and other meds eg. Azilect.

1pm, Sinemet CR & baclofen.

6pm, Sinemet CR & baclofen.

11pm, Sinemet CR

3am, Sinemet CR

and then start over again. Adding Boosters in here and there if I get tired or feel a twinge.

The safest cardio is stat bike. The r ihip pain could be coming from low back pelvis or hip. Probably need to see a PT.

I am Bill I have the same problem, right now I think I am in pay back mode for last attempt at staying in shape. I am 60 and have been taking meds for 17 years. I was in construction and we built many homes in the bay area. So we were used to being in shape, and if shit aint going right, push a little harder. And whatever I have now doesn't roll like that. it is more like you play you pay.. good thing nobody changed those rules....Yet . So now it is looking like DBS. This stuff can wear one out Can I tell you what makes it all good? cause Im going to. for the last 10 years I have been in a wheelchair most of the time, cause I ran into a pickup truck going 55 he was 35 head on. barely scraped through that one with 10 or more compound fractures...............Today I can walk again thank you father. I keep going mostly happy knowing that the world is changing, another world is possible, and on its way, soon unconditional love will be the bottom line. I would love to be part of all this playing out that is how we do it but............you play you pay..........So Our father my wife and family and fellow humans And other partakers in this life that is what keeps us going. Oh and it is so nice to not even know you but I am one with you on the lets get in shape stuff. living in the tension your friend bill.

Don't know if this info will help, but I used to be a professional athlete and basically worked out for a living. I've now had PD for 13 years one of my main symptoms is dystonia. I went through a period of time where if I worked out, even the slightest bit, my symptoms would skyrocket and I would struggle for a couple days. i finally discovered that if I sweat a lot and really got my heart rate up before and during my workout (usually treadmill jog or eliptical + weight lifting) I would feel better. So now I make sure I workout in sweatsuit and get my heart rate up if I don't want to crash.

I understand the frustation, what I am trying with some positive results, is a soy based protein drink 20 minutes prior to start of a workout. I find it gives me an energy boost during the workout. Just a word of caution, whey based protein drinks will inhibit the absorbation of ldopa and I remember that sinement has ldopa in its make up. Good luck with a carido workout and please continue, personally I believe that a cardio workout has the effect of helping my azilect slow or stop my PD progression. Dennis

Dopamine is your movement fuel, with PD and Dystonia, you have insufficient supply. Use it up and yu have to get more. I take a little extra Sinemet every time I even leave he house. and always keep some ob hand. When I am feeling slow I chew a little and keep it in my mouth for a few min., then wash it down with an electrolyte drink. Note, Chewing Sinemet rots your teeth so chew gum after or brush.
