Sinemet Plus 25mg/100mg tablets Side effects?

Sarah106 profile image
18 Replies

My brother takes Sinemet plus 25mg/100mg tablets - One and a half tablets at 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm and 8pm.

Half Sinemet CR 25mg/100mg tablets - one taken at bedtime.

I have noticed after taking Sinemet plus he is unable to get out of chair or bed for up to an hour, dizziness and sleepiness. His vision becomes unclear and everything is closing in. Legs extremely swollen and urine retention.

Anyone has the same symptoms with Sinemet plus?

Thanks

Hi Sarah,my husband is on sinemet too,we also are in the UK.swollen legs/ ankles can be a side effect of the drug, our GP put H.on 20 mg of Frusemide(don’t think that’s spelt right) and this had dramatically helped the swelling go down. Now this is just our experience, but Iv been attempting to replace some of my husbands sinemet with natural mucuna. It has been working very well, but I mistakenly ordered the one a day pill rather than the two a day, half strength ones he had been taking. The results were disastrous, his symptoms got worse, and his balance went haywire. It took 6 hours for things to calm down.I know there are folks with all the science at their fingertips ( and have I been greatful to them the last year) but from our experience,do you think his dosage is too high? Maybe try taking 9ff the half for the first dose of the day,and over a week cut back another half and see if it makes a difference.Hope that might be helpful

Look up barbara o'neill and swollen legs.A crystal of celtic salt before each drink of water, ensures the water goes straight to the kidneys.

Please let us know how the replacing the levodopa dose with the mucana pil ( has thar mucana pill got a certain strength )

goes.

Hi ,sorry I didn’t reply earlier.Husbands neurologist wanted to up sinemet dose to one and a half sinemet 3 times a day.He takes two at 6 in the morning plus one at 1230,one at 5.30 and one at 1030.He now is still taking the one tablet, but we supplement the 12.30 and the nighttime dose with natural mucuna. The strength is 99%Ldopa and an uptake blend .which is 240mgmucuna extract.I get the capsules from a firm called British Supplements based in Ireland. All their supp are prefixed by the word Clean. There are a few companies trying to copy them,so if you want to look them up double check you have the official site.Their 1 per day bigger capsule is357 mg mucuna extract.Husbandis doing well on this regime, also has other supplements from this firm to help immune system.

Thanks I've started using British supplements as their products don't contain fillers etc. Will try using mucana in place of one of the levodopa timed one.

She gets rasagiline, one in morning, that is another contributor along with levodopa towards dyskinesia.

Fingers crosssed

Looked up youtube about mucana very interesting.WWP takes 25/ 1000mg co-careldopa at 8am 12pm 4am 8pm and a rasagiline at 8am.

Something similar to your husband.

Think I'll substitute the 12pm and 8pm with the 1/2 mucana as it looks to be working for your husband.

Maybe it would be better to start one change once a day and see how that goes and if that seems to work then go on and try the evening dose.Better to go slow and give his body time to adapt.

My HWP has tried pills but Mucuna Powder from Natures Root works much better and much cheaper. I make up 2.5ml doses in juice.

I notice that they say the amount of Levadopa changes from batch to batch, but give an on average amount, and I couldn’t find any info about their products being tested by an independent laboratory The mucuna we get from B.S.comes in capsule form, much easier to take than a pill, and because H.response to a higher dose was so distressing for him,I’d be worried about trying to find the right amount for him myself, weighing powder.Really glad it works for your husband though.

I have a 2.5ml measure spoon. It really works for him and he has had PD 30 years.

Sarah, did he start with that frequency of pill taking?

He was taking less tablets with more gap, and now it has increased.

That seems to be the answer from them all, just to increase the amount knowing it increases the side effect of dyskinesia. I'm going to try WWP what CRMACK1948 is doing but substitute the co-careldopa at 8pm with 1/2 tablet of 240mg mucana.

Then if all goes well, substitute another time 12pm also with the mucana.

Hello Sarah,

I am Sela from Cambodia, I have take care my wife ,Prak Chanmony , almost 20 years for her PD. I noticed that, sometime you have to change the medicine from time to time depended on he/she condition. For example, if he/she take Sinemet 25mg/100mg for time and you found that the effective of the medicine is not suitable for he/she anymore, then you should ask he/she change to another medicine such Madopa or Modopa , starts from the small mg . You should notice that no mater Sinemet or Madopa, they has two components mainly Levodopa and Cabidopa in Sinemet and Lovodopa and Benserazide in Modopa or Madopa. But it is helpful if you use natural mucuna powder to adjust the needs of Levodopa instead of give he/she Sinemet or Madopa because when he/she take those medicine, there are two componets come into he/she body. But Fava bean or Broad bean also found helpful for her. So, I used to ask my wife to change medicine depended on her condition and especially to have exercise everyday. I hope this will help you to consider.

Some of the symptoms mentioned may be off time before the current dose kicks in

Hi, not sure if I know what Sinemet plus is, but I do take a comparable dose of Sinemet each day. It’s a lot, but I consider my side effect IS Parkinson’s since I can present pretty normally when “on”. I do have some things like a little dyskinesia, but that comes when I have a little too much. (like taking a full tablet instead of a half.
