Magnesium and dopamine

Maybe someone can help explain the effect of magnesium on dopamine levels.I thought a dopamine agonist was helpful in calming rls. Magnesium is an antagonist so decreases dopamine levels, yet is touted as effective in controlling rls. Don't know if I'm making any sense here.

Edited: PD increases chance of RLS.(yes) Azilect worsens RLS.(wrong) Ambroxol, being an antihistamine I believe worsens RLS.(incorrect)

Editing my edit: (yes, I know, but I’m trying) Not only do dopamine agonists make RLS worse but so do meds that increase dopamine. Azilect was not mentioned specifically but increasing dopamine is a “cause of RLS augmentation.” Levodopa increases augmentation meaning it makes RLS worse.

blood sugar levels

I read that levodopa carbadopa increases your blood level of glucose does anyone take any non-dopamine therapy that works when I take levadopa I can’t stand up. And all of my te tendons, get weak and burn. I also have Lyme disease I’ll read that to her and dopamine enhance Lyme disease.

RLS and iron metabolism and treating with dopamine agonists causes dopamine burnout

And, I now think the dopamine agonists are prodding the tired dopamine receptors until they die instead of nurturing them back to health.)

‘World's 1st' fetal brain stem cell transplant effective in Parkinson's disease: study

Cell replacement therapy makes dopamine nerve precursor cells from stem cells derived from the midbrain of the fetus. Then, dopamine nerve precursor cells can be transplanted into the patient's brain.

NURR1

In particular, the team found that the naturally occurring molecule 5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHI), a dopamine metabolite, binds directly to and modulates the activity of Nurr1. https://parkinsonsnewstoday.com/news/new-parkinsons-strategy-targets-nurr1-protein/

An exciting new clinical trial called STEM-PD is due to start in Sweden and the UK for Parkinson’s.

The symptoms of Parkinson’s are caused by the loss of dopamine-producing nerve cells or neurons in the brain; and researchers have long proposed using cell transplantation as a treatment option for replacing these lost dopamine cells.

Seratonin for resting tremor : could tremor that doesn’t respond to just dopamine need more seratonin?

So low seratonin kicks off the loop or cascade that culminates in low dopamine. Would increasing seratonin have a disease modifying affect or just aid in more dopamine and reduce symptoms?

What to try next?

The neurologist prescribed a low dose of an oral dopamine agonist but it made him too sleepy. He is now offering a choice between trying Artane, or a Neupro (dopamine agonist) patch, perhaps left on only during the day, or commencing low dose Madopar. Does the community have thoughts on this?

St. John’s wort, ursolic acid, Gardenia jasminoides

My guess is it’s because of his dopamine beta hydroxylase running fast, (genetic testing picked this up) breaking down the dopamine too fast so it runs out too quickly and causes rigidity and anxiety.

Dopamine agonists

Why does https://www.rls-uk.org/faqs still say under Treatments for RLS "Dopamine agonists are often recommended for people with more frequent symptoms. These include ropinirole, pramipexole and rotigotine."

What does GPT4 have to say about the role of inflammation in RLS?

This was the answer I got: "Chronic inflammation can contribute to the dysfunction of the dopamine system by damaging the dopaminergic neurons in the brain. This can lead to a reduction in dopamine levels, which can cause the symptoms of RLS.

Magnesium in Parkinson’s disease: an update in clinical and basic aspects

Parkinson's has a long presymptomatic period, it's caused for the newborn, from magnesium deficiency during pregnancy & nursing which makes it so fewer dopamine nerves are created. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK507269/#_NBK507269_pubdet_
