Efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions for sleep quality in Parkinson’s disease: a systematic review and network meta-analysis

The study compared the efficacy of different non-pharmacological interventions for sleep disorders in patients with PD, and results suggest that massage therapy may be the preferred non-pharmacological intervention for improving sleep disorders in PD, followed by music therapy and treadmill training.

The daily massage sounds wonderful, though it can be challenging to implement. Through Qigong, there are interesting self-massage techniques to learn, which always have a relaxing effect on me.

Unfortunately, I found nothing about breathing techniques, such as the Coherent Breathing Exercise of 5 seconds. It's easy to learn and can be applied anywhere. Ideally, do it for 3 minutes at least 3 times a day:

Sit comfortably with your back straight, relax your body as much as possible, and close your eyes. Inhale for 5 seconds, then exhale for 5 seconds, through your nose. That's it. 😎

Dear Farooqji. Thanks for this. I would like to tell you about another potential treatment for Parkinson's - related sleep disorders. Here is the report of the case series study mdsabstracts.org/abstract/e... Professor Carroll, Professor of Clinical Neuroscience at Plymouth University would have liked to do a larger efficacy trial with people with Parkinson’s but had no-one available to apply for funding. All of the testers wanted to keep their devices. I helped to develop the device, which is used by a wide range of people who find sleep difficult. Part of what drove me was trying to help a former partner, who had Parkinson's and struggled to sleep well. I would love a larger trial.

Get me a device and I will test it for you.

Hi Would you please contact me via the website? I want to be respectful to the aim of this sitet. I want to do all I can to support others, and I don't want to muddle this with our own commercial interests, which of course includes testing and research. Thanks so much.

I'm curious; if the electromagnetic signal doesn't cross the skull, how does it work?

The brain picks up our signals, and responds, in a similar way to picking up sound, and relaxing, or becoming agitated (depending on the nature / frequency of the sound. Have a look at zeez.org.uk/science-research. We can measure the effects on the brain: the explanation is that we have a resonant effect.

But do you have any links that explain how a tiny pulse that doesn't penetrate the skull entrains brain cells? I read the link, it's very vague. For $250 I'd want some real science to see first.

Not what you're looking for?
