There are different brands in the market but I take MagTech.
I take the taurate and L-Threonate and find they relax me in the evening. I also make my own mag chloride oil for topical application because it can do things that the other forms don't seem to do nearly as well, such as quick pain relief and muscle relaxing along with potential to quell nerve pain!
I think it is in the eighth paragraph. Essentially a 50% magnesium chloride flakes and 50% distilled water mix. Glen's mix is probably around 70% and that is why it seems so oily. The 50% mix feels less oily. I use vodka in place of the distilled water to further reduce the oily feeling. In your case I would apply a small amount of your favorite body lotion on top of the mag oil application and let dry for a moment. I think you will like the way this leaves your skin feeling!
There are links in that post that show the flakes I use and where I buy them. If Glen likes the mix you make, you can make him some to refill his spray bottle. It is much less expensive to make your own and the lotion topper leaves the skin feeling better once it dries a little. To me the 70% solutions are too oily and take longer to dry. I don't find much if any difference between 50% and 70% in terms of beneficial effects, but Glen can be the judge of that since he is already using something around 70%.
Hi Art! Although he gets up 3-4 times during the night, the next morning, he tells me that he is not tired and that he feels fine. No naps which he used to have before he was diagnosed, but he keeps going all day doing chores. Nothing beats your MAGNESIUM recipe though! He always rubs his stiff hamstrings with the oil before he goes to bed. The mag you wrote about seems to be also good for less $$.
Thank you for the information! That combined with what Kia said about his benefits, just makes me wonder why more PWPs do not use magnesium???
I'm glad the mag oil recipe is helping his stiff hamstrings. It's so easy to use. I'm not really sure why the oral forms can't do the same as the mag oil, I guess it is because you can reach higher tissue levels than the oral form and you are applying it right where you need it! How are his knees doing?
That MagEnhance (ME) looks to be the same price as what you bought , if you bought it from Amazon, but the ME had the highest percentage of 5 star reviews (74%). None of the three products deliver the full daily allowance for magnesium, but apparently they deliver enough to get a very good response and that is what matters! Once I burn through my very large supply of magnesium, I will be giving the MagEnhance a test run!
Art, his knees still ache most of the time. It started after he upped his B1 (240mg/week from 200mg) and now with the higher dose, they still ache. He wants to give it a try for a month as Dr. C. suggested and go from there. As I wrote before, it could be a combination of circumstances. Thinking about making an appointment with an orthopedic and see if he/she will pinpoint what is exactly wrong.
On a different tune, as a caregiver (don't like that word), at times I am a nervous wreck. So I decided to give magnesium a try. I got ReMag by Dr. Dean. IT IS A MIRACULOUS product. A little expensive but it lasts quite a while. Warning: It is a very bitter liquid!
PS. I get most of the vitamins/supplements from Amazon. My next magnesium purchase for my husband will be MagEnhance since it got better reviews (although I am not sure if these reviews are real or fake). Thank you for pointing it out.
On the reviews, you can usually tell the real ones because they will mainly talk about the known benefits of magnesium. I know there are some fake ones, but I do give weight to higher number of reviews as well as the percentage of 5 star ratings. Sometimes a product may show a relatively high rating, but I feel the 5 star rating percent gives a slightly better indication of how effective the product really is.
Yes, the Dean formula Remag is very expensive at $3.75 an ounce compared to other brands that cost only $1.25 an ounce and way more expensive than making your own. This is a good example of why I use the 5 star percentage rating. When you look at the ratings for Remag 8 ounce spray, it has a 65% 5 star rating while another popular brand, Ancient Minerals 8 ounce spray at a $1.50 less per ounce has a 66% 5 star rating or essentially the same. For a further comparison, this no name brand 8 ounce mag oil spray bottle that costs less than one third of the cost of Remag at a $1.24 an ounce has a 73% 5 star rating! I think the main thing that these ratings show is that the commercial products are similar and that is why I usually suggest that people by the least expensive mag oil to try it out and then if they like it, can make their own at a much much lower cost!
No, the same results, just dries a little faster after applying to the skin. For me, I prefer the feel of the vodka mix on the skin along with the faster drying time.
I've been looking for a good magnesium supplement and was considering MagEnchance but it contains microcrystalline cellulose (as one of excipients) which doesn't sound too good according to this article on Integrative Holistic Health website:
DANGERS OF MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE, FILLER IN PHARMACEUTICALS
Posted on January 10, 2014 by Emi Miller
I have some new concerns for us to think about as far as using MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE as a filler in Nature Throid, Westhroid and ArmourThyroid tablets.
I am a Registered Nurse, with an extensive background in physiology. It occurred to me that just as the cells cannot keep out artificial sweeteners, but absorb them as if they were ordinary glucose, and that this wreaks havoc in our cells ability to function, leading to many forms of physical discomfort and illness, that the same thing would apply if we use MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE as a filler in our Thyroid products. I remembered reading about why Armour stopped working well for many people, even when they adjusted their dosage correctly. The reason stated was that they had started using artificial fillers.
Doing some research I came upon this article, and want to share it here. It says exactly that: Our cells cannot stop the micro-nano particles from entering them, and once there, these particles, especially from cellulose from wood, which is what Microcrystalline Cellulose comes from, are not able to be absorbed, but float in and out of the cell membranes, and basically clog up tiny places in our bodies, bio-accumulating as we ingest more, and cause background inflammation to rise. Beware of ‘Cellulose’ as a filler in food products. If it comes from “A Vegetable Source” that is OK, if it does not specify, it means it came from, “Wood Pulp” Steer clear of any and all products that use Microcrystalline Cellulose whose source is not indicated.
A couple of excerpts from the article follow:
Nanotechnology: benefits vs toxic risks,
Feb. 1, 2007 George Burdock Functional Ingredients
“Once in the body, some particles have changed the shape or conformation of proteins, creating a protein similar to that produced in Alzheimer’s disease. Changing protein conformation can potentially create new allergenic proteins in organs to which the body could mount an immune response.
While easy entry into the cells of the intestine and target organs can be beneficial, the other side of the coin is that because these particles are so ‘slippery,’ how can they ever be excreted by the body? Because much of our excretory system at the cellular level is based on a cell successfully excreting a substance (as in the kidney) to be flushed away, how can the particle be made to remain in the waste stream if it can so easily gain re-entry into other cells downstream?
While some of the more dramatic examples of actual physical damage are described above, the damage most often seen in response to nano-materials is the generation of reactive oxygen species, resulting in oxidative stress to the biological system.
In oxidative stress, the universal antioxidant chemical in the body, glutathione or GSH, is converted to the oxidized inactive form, GSSH. As reserves of GSH are depleted and the GSH:GSSH ratio lowers, the body mounts a progressively more assertive reaction. The first stage of oxidative stress is to produce special enzymes to detoxify the new invading chemical; if, however, there is no enzyme for this purpose or the human does not have the capability to produce the enzyme, the body progresses into the next stage, inflammation.””
I have tried Life Extension supplements but the quality of their products isn’t good. For eg; in the magnesium bottle you can always see the powder around the capsules.
What you're saying here, Kia is extremely important information for PWPs and I just hope nobody who could benefit from this misses what you are saying !!! Despe is already confirming it!
I received the B1 high potency tablets from source naturals today (500mg thiamine +100mg MAGNESIUM)and was excited to try it, but followed easilly's advice about too much MAGNESIUM in these for someone who's taking 4 grams of B1 as I am. So then I took my regular concoction which consists of 16 herbs (will share list as requested), 1/8 tsp. scoop of Mucuna pruriens, 1 gram of B1 powder mixed in a very little water like a mud mix and finally the 2 tablets of B1(500mg THIAMINE + 100mg MAGNESIUM). The initial response felt harsh on my stomach, but 15 minutes later I feel WONDERFUL, NO TREMOR, BETTER THAN EVER. The response to the tablets form is better. The controlled magnesium measure works great for the thiamine assimilation.
I mix 3 tablespoon scoops of each one of these into a plastic cylindrical shape container and blend together by shaking it up (dry that is). I use 1 TBS. scoop 2x a day throughout the week.
I am very curious how did you come up with this formula - on your own or with an herbalist? I am not familiar with herbal combinations but understand that they have some synergy and in Chinese medicine herbs are always used in specific combinations to increase their therapeutic potential.
No I don't, sorry. They very are expensive also. I get my herbs from ameriherb.com. I think the owner is an Egyptian engineer/inventor who's made some discoveries. By the way my pastor is an herbalist and I've ran the list by him.
Faridaro my pastor is an herbalist so I run these herbs I'm planning to use by him. And I research them on the internet and pick and choose the most beneficial ones.
Kia,
I was looking at the ingredients in your Magtech and Despe's , Peak Performance. They look to have the same exact combination of ingredients and counts, but hers costs $25 and yours costs $35. Yours had more and better reviews though.
By comparison this third product has the exact same combination and is $25 like Peak Performance and has even more reviews than Magtech and the highest percentage of 5 star reviews of these three products. It is called MagEnhance. Here is a link to it :
Wah. I tried all different forms snd doses. Mag never worked for me. 🤕 if it does, it wears off very quickly. However, i did get some benefits from Art's spray mag. I need it, my back and legs get so tense. Rt wrist too.
Maybe I should start a post where people can post their results with that mag oil!
Did you make it with water or vodka?
I find it very useful for any pain, headache, or tension related to my neck and shoulders. I think I will apply some mag oil to that area to see if it does anything to help with sleep. That would be useful if it helps with just a topical application!
Art, where can I find your mag oil recipe please? I have a lot of neck & shoulder tension as well as headaches. I buy the New U brand of mag oil for Glen (which helps a lot with his stiff and sore calf muscles) but it's too oily for me I don't like the feel of it.
The 3 different magnesium are in one capsule. I take 1 serving of MagTech which is 3 capsules only at bedtime and Aximagnesio in the morning with Thiamine morning dose.
I just heard of weighted blanket. Apparently this blanket is used to reduce anxiety and promote sleep. Am thinking of buying one for my husband. Has anyone tried it?
Funny you should mention. My hubby got one in the mail 2 days ago. When I questioned him, he says he thinks it will help him sleep. He grew up poor and as a kid the house was cold and he and his siblings would have coats piled on them as they slept. He was was accustomed to the weight on him more so than the warmth. He thinks replicating that feeling will help him sleep. We'll see.....
Has any one tried Doctors Best magnesium lysinate gycinate? I took about 1/4 of one of the huge tablets and had the most bizarre sensation in my head, spinning and feeling like I had taken a mind altering drug! I am not sure if it is because it is supposed to be taken whole and it absorbed through my mouth but it does have a line through it so I thought it could be cut in half. I am scared to take a whole one and the daily dose is supposed to be 2 of these!
Thx for the great tip on the topical application for magnesium. I used 1/2 cup Epsom salts to one cup of heated filtered water and wallah! Worked like a charm on left knee and hamstring. So simple!
It does work also, but not as much magnesium is absorbed into the body with magnesium sulfate and some people feel the mag oil is even more effective at relaxing the muscles and relieving pain of different origins. The magnesium chloride is better absorbed through the skin and adds to your total magnesium intake. For a full on bath soak, you can't beat the epsom salt/magnesium sulfate though!
I have a friend with a shoulder issue right now and he says the mag oil completely relieves the pain and allows his muscles to relax so he can move his arm normally!
Add 3-4 drops of Lavender and Cinnamon oils along with 1/2 c. of baking soda. Cleveland Functional Medicine doctor suggested it to my husband. I added the Cinnamon oil though.
Cinnamon oil is very strong Despe - did your husband not have any adverse skin reaction? It is a fab oil though, along with Lavender (a great combination).....but why the 1/2 cup of baking soda?
Baking soda has medicinal applications, read it in health sides as well. I only add 2-3 drops of cinnamon bark oil, not enough to cause him any skin problems
