I checked with Swanson's . they could not tell me.. supplier didn't provide that info.. and, i'm guessing that, if it's important, it's not in there if not listed
The only supplier for PS128 I've found is Solace; the product is quite pricey and shipping is expensive since it ships cold.
Solace states on website it is gluten free, but apparently GF labeling does not mean much when it comes to probiotic supplements (several cases of contamination found by NYT and also Gluten Free Watchdog), so I'm worried about giving to my daughter.
Still I very much want to try it myself and if it is good, I would like my daughter to try it too. I asked Gluten Free Watchdog to test but am not hopeful even though I have been a member for a few months.
That's the one. I wrote to their customer service: 'What assurance can you provide that your product is gluten free? Do you have a certificate of analysis from a 3rd party? Gluten contamination in probiotics appears to be rather common (difficult to understand why). NYT in 2015 found a number of popular probiotic supplements contaminated with gluten above 20 ppm. Gluten Free Watchdog found 3/10 probiotic supplements were contaminated with gluten (at or above 10 ppm) - all made gluten free claims on their product packaging or website. I'm interested in your product for my daughter who has Celiac.'
They replied that they don't used gluten ingredients & they don't test for gluten - which is not reassuring since none of the products that were contaminated with gluten had gluten ingredients either.
Good news - Gluten Free Watchdog have added it to their list. It may take time to get results though. I think it is a good one for them to test since it may be helpful to ppl w/ Celiac (they suffer a lot with anxiety) and some recent studies have found association between Celiac and autism (there was a clinical trial for PS128 & autism that showed benefit).
Interesting idea. On their site, they say that they use fermented mustard greens. I've been looking around for any "life hacker" who has made their own probiotics, just to see if anything like that is even possible. This looks like a good start: nourishedessentials.com/blo...
I just made yogurt with the ps128 and another probiotic, which I'm eating daily. I'm also taking 2 capsules of it at night. I do feel better. My tremors are definitely reduced after only taking a few days. I got 30 capsules for $99, which will only last 2 weeks.
In the OP I linked to Millbrook's post on her husband's experience with PS128, though it was combined with VieLight. I just looked at her profile and there is a much more extensive thread on it that she started a month ago:healthunlocked.com/cure-par...
Lactobacillus plantarum has been shown to inhibit inflammation [3–5]. For example,
L. plantarum 299v eases abdominal pains in patients with irritable bowel syndrome, an illness characterized by overactive inflammatory responses in the gut [6]. In addition, live and heat-killed L. plantarum MYL26, as well as bacterial cell wall extracts, increase the tolerance of human epithelial cells to endotoxin-induced inflammation by regulating gene expression in the cells, suggesting that entities on the bacterial cell wall contribute to the anti-inflammatory activity of the bacteria [7].
Interestingly, we have found that L. plantarum PS128—which was isolated from fu-tsai, a traditional Taiwanese fermented vegetable food product—reduces lipopolysaccharide-induced pro-inflammatory cytokine production in an RAW 264.7 mouse macrophage cell model (Additional file 1).
It is notable that the teichoic acids (TAs) produced by L. plantarum are implicated in the activation of immune signaling [8]; and a recent study in mice shows that defective d-alanylation of TAs abolishes both pro-and anti-inflammatory responses of the host immune system [9], suggesting that the processes including modification in the TAs biosynthesis are involved in the immunomodulatory effects of L. plantarum. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
