Vinpocetine

I can't remember who commented about Vinpocetine, but thank you to whoever it was. This is purely anecdotal on my part, but I think it has enhanced blood flow to my brain and other extremities. My hands and feet are no longer cold all the time and I feel better in general. Here's some info from Simon of Science of Parkinson's:

How do you know what ingredient in that very long list of ingredients, of which vinpocetine is not the greatest, are giving you benefit?

Good point. I just know Vinpocetine aids blood flow and helps fight inflammation, but whether it's the Vinpocetine, the other ingredients, or a combination thereof, I don't know.

Jim, it was me who commented after Iqbaliqbal ‘s post peeked my interest earlier this month, plus Park_bears insightful comments.

I love this over the counter (in the US) vitamin and take 3 total 10 mg daily which is the daily recommendation per the bottle. Vinpocetine increases blood flow to the brain without affecting blood pressure. It’s thought to positively increase blood flow to the brain and reduce inflammation.

I’ve noticed hours of tremor absence and gate improvement. I had intended to post my results after a month but Jim you beat me to it.

I’m 4 years from first PD physical symptoms. My regiment:

B1: I started in April 2000mg.

B1: October reduced to 1000mg.

2-3 40% Mucuna Capsules daily.

Occasionally B12.

Now 30 mg Vinpocetine since 11/3/18.

My question to all our friend researchers here...Could increased blood flow to the brain be responsible for tremor absence and general reduction in symptoms?

Don’t misunderstand, I still have a mild almost unnoticeable intermittent tremor. My daily life is almost normal because of B1 however Vinpocetine seems to have furthered my improvement. A year ago I was hiding behind my office door, last week I lead a meeting at my office.

Vinpocetine is derived from the Periwinkle Plant and is considered a relatively safe vitamin.

Looking forward to hearing from some of our resident experts!

You take the same Apex Energetics product, or a different one?

Constance, my husband is taking choline and I've just received Vinpocentine I ordered (20 mg ea capsule). Is it OK to take both? Also, would two capsules of Vinpocentine (40 mg) a day be safe?

CORRECTION: Vinpocetine vs VinpoceNtine. :)

Not being an expert on the topic. I read during studies they were administering 60 mg. But the studies were short term. Can’t comment on the other mixing of supplements. Hope that helps

Thank you. Guess we will try Vinpocetine 20 mg for now.

Good morning Cons, I received a bottle of Vinpocetine from the USA, I ask you if there are any side effects and for how long you can use. Thank you

I haven’t had any side effects. I follow the recommended dose as noted on the bottle.

It’s improved my gait and diminished my tremor.

I started taking Vinpocetine as an experiment to treat my foot neuropathy that was causing a weird burning sensation in my feet. 3 /30 mg doses per day has almost removed the sensation in my feet. I also have more energy, am more ambition and am feeling more like myself. hoping this is not a placebo effect. will monitor this over time

Hi would you recommend other brand over the counter that works beside the nitric balance?

Thank you

I'm not sure if this question is directed at me, but I am not competent to make recommendations. I'm taking Nitric Balance because it contains Vinpocetine and it was recommended by my chiropractor.

Bought 10 grams bulk powder from bulk supplements. It is expensive. Took 30 mg first try. Keep you posted. Where do you purchase if you have?

in reply toErniediaz1018

Human studies with oral dosing generally use 30 mg total per day divided into three doses, one 10 mg cap or pill with breakfast, one with lunch and one with dinner. Some of the injection studies used more and there is supposed to be one human study that used a total of 60 mg / day. Vinpocetine seems to have a relatively short half life.

It is fairly expensive, but if you are only using 30 mg / day, it is going to be very long lasting and I think the price has come down a bit recently compared to years ago when it was extremely difficult to find vinpocetine

Hi are the folks taking vinpocetine still on it and still feeling the benefits? I was dx 8 months ago on. Tremors on my left side is the most noticeable motor symptom that i want to alleviate. I was prescribed Sinimet but wanted to hold off as much as possible. Been taking 250 mg of B1( reduced from 500mg at this level tremors worsened) but did give me energy and sleep well on it.

jimcaster in reply toFighttolive

I am still taking it as an ingredient in one of many supplements I take. I can't attribute any particular benefit to it, but it remains one of many potentially beneficial supplements. I take many vitamins and supplements, but no medication. I was diagnosed in May, 2018. I don't think anyone would ever guess that I have PD. High intensity exercise is very important, too. Good luck!

@jimcaster what is your B-1 HCL dosage these days?

jimcaster profile image
jimcaster in reply toAmyLindy

I'm still at 1.5 grams per day. I occasionally reduce to 1 gram, but 1.5 seems to be right for me. I hope you are still doing well!

Thanks Jim...

I'm also hoping to stave this thing off with 5 days a week of intense exercise and supplements. However the tremors are getting the better of me for the past 2 weeks. People are starting to notice which is very concerning.
