Kia,
I use 30 to 60 mg per day of vinpocetine as I have seen used in human studies, but I do not have PD so can not give any input on that aspect. What I have noticed is that I have had a gradual improvement in my word recall. Not an earth shaking change, but a positive change none the less. I will continue with this experiment to see if there will be further improvement, but I am getting ready to start a new self experiment fairly soon and am undecided whether I will stop taking vinpocetine during my next experiment or not.
Vinpocetine is one ingredient contained within one of many supplements I take so it is virtually impossible for me to attribute any particular benefit, but I know it was the subject of a Science of Parkinson's article by Simon and I know some people on this site are confident of its value.
I take 30mg. of Vinpocetine per day (1cp. from 10mg. for three times a day with meals) from about one month in association with Mannitol (20gr. in the morning for breakfast) and I found much benefit: mentally lucid, more concentrated, more motivated. Honestly I do not know to attribute the merit. However, in consideratione of this, I have reduced the Sinemet from 2cp. to 1cp. I hope this condition can be maintained for a long time. While the Mannitol in Italy is found, the Vinpocetina comes to me from the USA, the producer is Newtoneverett - Scottsdale.
Currently on my 3rd vacation outside the US during the past 6 months. In this group I met a Neurosurgeon. On the second day he said to me. “ I just learned you have Parkinson’s Disease and I would of never known it”. On the 3rd evening at dinner he said “ I have a friend who had PD for 5 years and I see her symptoms at times but I still don’t notice yours.” I responded that he’d likely see them if he hung around me longer. Having said that I’m realizing many notice nothing unusual about me.
My gait had been my most troubling symptom, after B1 had corrected my non motor symptoms. My gait has improved immensely. The two most recent supplement additions have been Vinpocetine and Kratom. I do no take Kratom every day or more than once a day, but perhaps because it works on your opioid and serotonin receptors it helps. I don’t understand it fully. Besides that I take Mucuna and B1.
Also oxygenate my blood twice daily with Wim Hof breathing exercises as found on YouTube. Takes just a few minutes.
Not totally sure why my gait is so improved, but truly enjoying walking with ease 80% of the day and the 20% leg drag is much more subtle than before.
You mentioned Win Hoff, I just discovered him recently too. Tried the breathing and even the cold showers. Couldn't really do the cold showers too much , but I know they activate the dopaminergic system or process. Glad to hear you're doing well !!
I cannot figure out the paradox between these 2 medications:
📍Vinpocetine enhances the availability of acetylcholine to improve mood and movement control.
📍Anticholinergics medications block acetylcholine - a chemical messenger found in your brain and body and are prescribed for reducing tremor and muscle stiffness.
2 different medications with opposite pharmacological effects but have the same benefits!?
