Its like waiting for the executioner. Fingers crossed I'll come through it ok and start the new year with improving symptoms. Im told it'll be a four hour operation and that I could be home next day.
Wish me luck.

You will be fine. You are active and the surgeons can do this procedure with eyes closed, but they hopefully won't!! I am almost where you are at, so if you are up for it when feeling good, keep us posted. You Got This!!
Wishing you the best of luck and hope for a good outcome. I had wonderful nurses during my one night in the hospital and my husband stayed with me.
Iβm very happy for you to take this step. It was two years ago this week that I went through it. My older brother had resisted the surgery until he saw the difference in me. Heβs now thrilled with his new lease on life! The success rates are beyond great you donβt need to fear. The tough part to prepare yourself for is waiting for the first programming session.
What happens during tbe waiting? You still take meds as usual, right?
Yes you take your meds but you arenβt improved by the DBS device until you have the programming procedure. I had debilitating tremors and rigidity before surgery and adding in recovery from brain surgery it was difficult to sleep or function until I got programmed. But I was able to drive for the first time in 5 years after that. My handwriting capability returned and has actually continued to improve overtime. I was able to dress and shower etc! Iβm playing piano again.
best wishes for a speedy recovery
Good luck! A good friend has just had it done and is happily rejuvenated!
All the very best wishes to you for a successful operation and quick recovery. Well done for making the decision to go for it. Looking forward to hearing about the improvements to your life!
Wishing you all the best & look forward to following your progress. Where are you having your op? I have just been accepted for DBS in Newcastle. Be kind to yourself & hope 2025 is better for you.
Another way of looking at it is your not going to be worse than you now so anything is an improve as I know life is a daily battle wwjith. This shitee conditionAll the best
Be positive, you will be alrightπ
Good luck ginger keep us posted
I just had surgery 13 days ago and thereβs nothing to worry about. See my post DBS 12-17-24. You will be surprised. πππ₯
LL and anyone else.............
How was the neuropsychological testing and was it really 4 hours? Not looking forward to more torture after I just did another no meds night for an On/Off eval...........Thanks.
The test was approximately 4 hrs. Most of it was not hard, you had to take your time and go thru it thoroughly. They will tell you some stories and you have to give them back information as you can remember. That was the hardest part for me. Itβs important to stay calm, otherwise youβll get too anxious. I think they arenβt real picky. Youβll be fine. I thought I had blown it but they said I did fine. I did all that worrying for nothing. πππ₯
LL.........Thanks so much, I'm always thinking ahead and worrying- many times for nothing. Will take your advice and not sweat it. Continue learning your new toy and feel better and better.
When i had mine it was really hot. The tests were done in a small room with no windows. I thought id failed too as i couldn't recall much and guessed most of it. I did get a low score but was told that this was within expectations. Must be low expectations.
Thanks ginger........... glad things are finally going your way. I remember reading about dbs back aways and some felt improvement just from the electrodes, before turning on. Anyone getting lucky there?
Good luck! This seems to be a successful procedure in most cases.
prayers fir you. please keep us informed. All data pics feelings etc appreciated. Iβm having it in Feb!
You report in, Mr. Postman. We're all thinking of you.
Thanks. Im through the surgery. Back to delivery soon enough. After powering it up and tuning it, starting in 6 weeks
If you trust your surgeon, and will relax and let the medical team do their job, youβll be okay. My husband the surgery the end of November and started yesterday with the βsystemβ being turned on a very low setting for 3 weeks until he sees the Neurologist and start the process of tweaking the settings/ medications.
Watch your walking when you get released from the hospital. You will have been lying flat for 24+ hoursβ use assistance for the first week until your walking and balance are regained. But hope and belief this is the best thingβ then attitude will be your cheerleader!
God bless
Praying that this will be great answer for you. Parkinsonβs. Wish you all the best.
Prayers and positive thoughts being sent your way for a successful procedure and a wonderful new year!
I hope to be scheduled soon!
good luck ginger wishing you all the best and looking forward to hearing how you get on
Be calm and carry on.and have faith in the team. You will be fine
Wishing you the best possible result! You are brave, it's normal to have some fear before such a big step!
May this be a miracle of new vibrant life and living for you. Sending love and good luck.
I was Dx'd with Pd four years ago. But I never believed I was sick and it took a long time before I was willing to take medication. Now I Rytary two or three times daily, mainly because the neuro and my wife's constant nagging. So I haven't been keeping up with the latest news.
If I understand this, a pump literally shoots l-dopa into a vein? The patient isn't involved? He doesn't push the plunger in? It happens mechanically? Not that I'm interested in what sounds like MAJOR surgery. Have I got this right?
TIA,
kevin
Not quite. DBS is where the neurosurgeon put electrodes into a certain part of you brain. And eventually a stimulation signal is applied.
Dear, wishing you good luck and Happy New Year. You will b fine I m sure. God b with you!
You will b fine dear. Have faith in team of meds and above all God Almighty.
Wishing you good luck and Happy New Year
go with the flow - calm; no panicking allowedβ¦.
Thanks for all the best wishes. Unbelievable support. The procedure went well. More like 6 hours followed by 3 hours asleep in recovery before being moved to a ward. My whole head feels numb but I've not needed any pain medication. Everyone st Salford Royal hospital from surgeons to cleaning staff have been helpful and supportive. Looking forward to going home tomorrow π€
Ginger, you've given me your answer here! Yay! A good experience thus far. Feeling cared for and supported. How long before home? Are they giving you your meds while in there?

Good job! You made it!! π
LL....... is eating food still competition for levadopa absorption or will electric charge when turned on change things, thanks.
Donβt quote me but I believe itβs not as big a deal as it was before the surgery but you still take medicine so that doesnβt make much sense. Thatβs a good question for your programmer.
gingerj I wish you the very best πͺπ
my DBS was the best thing to happen to me in 5 years!
How are you now?
Im still in the hospital. Waiting to be discharged. For that they intend to scan my head to check everything is still where it should be. Hopefully today.
Prayers and thoughts with you for a successful surgery and recovery tomorrow. Iβm 58 and am seriously considering this to help me with this stupid disease.
How long have you had it?
Best regards,
Dave. E
