Vinpocetine BUT MUCH MORE: Are you taking your supplements right?

I'm one of those guys that does not like to be told how to do things. I don't much pay attention to whether a supplement bottle says to take something with food or on an empty stomach. How much of a difference can it make? Turns out, it can make a LOT of difference.

VPN is well absorbed from small intestine, which increased by food, therefore, fasting bioavailability is 6.7% and non-fasting bioavailability is 60–100%. intechopen.com/chapters/70917

So I take 30 mg of Vinpocetine twice a day. 60 mg total. Sometimes before I eat. Sometimes after. No real correlation to meals. Doh!

Fasting, 60 mg gets me: 4 freaking mg.

Non-fasting gets me: Between 36 and 60 mg.

Time to review all my supplements!

PS: I do know NAC should be taken at night (that is when your brain cleaner is working) and that NAC works better with Taurine.

Maybe I am wrong about needing to take NAC at night. I read somewhere that it helped clean toxins from the brain, and that the cleaning cycle runs at night. Also, I take the NAC with my Taurine as they complement each other. And Taurine helps reset the circadian clock, so that's another reason I take them before bed.

Thanks so much for this Bolt. I have been giving my husband NAC in the mornings and Taurine at night. He's also been taking vinpocetine first thing in the morning too. Looks like I'm going to have to change his schedule forthwith.

Good find. Quite the dramatic difference.

My only concern is, now that I will be taking it with food, what will multiplying my dose by 10 do? :)

Are you sure the stuff is even safe or appropriate? And how even are you so certain that NAC is safe and appropriate and helps? I hear many conflicting things and I read many conflicting things about NAC. Also seen a conversation about a close, but perhaps not relevant, similarity to diacetyl, which is not exactly good for you.

Good point. I have a high school degree. Neither NAC or Vinpocetine are approved to treat PD. None of my protocols seems to be helping my condition. I have not been diagnosed with PD. I have REM Sleep Behavior Disorder which is considered pre-PD. I also have a sore left shoulder and sore left arm.

Do your research.

Hello, I must admit I have never heard of vinpocetine before! I looked it up on Google and it sure looks interesting. Please could anyone elaborate their routines and dosage and effects please?

Please could someone also recommend where to purchase. I live in the U.K.

Thank you, best wishes to you all.

This is not a recommendation of Vinpocetine or Swanson, but they do sell it: swansonvitamins.com/

Yes, America does have more choices in supplements. I have no idea how to get them in the UK. Sorry.

How long have you been taking it “B-U”? Have you seen any improvements please?

I would say I have been taking Vinpocetine for about 3 months. No improvements yet. I have not been diagnosed with PD. I have REM Sleep Behavior Disorder, which is considered pre-PD.

Hi “B-U”, thank you for your reply. Let’s hope it is not the forerunner to PD.

Does anyone here ow whether there is scientific evidence to support vinpocetine for PD?

I think there are only animal studies for vinpocetine/PD. Human studies are available for other health issues such as these:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/339...

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/272...

Vinpocetine is used and prescribed more in Europe for cognitive issues, but not so much in the USA.
