Vinpocetine and Bruising

PSA: After some research I began Vinpocemine (30mg 3xd) with good results... (improved executive function) However, began having terrible bruising following exercise and I NEVER (never say never) bruise. I am not on any blood thinners and to be honest did not anticipate this side effect even though I had read about the possibility. If you are taking Vinpocetine Please be careful folks! Especially if you also take a blood thinner. I have since backed off and susceptibility to bruising has diminished

Dear Livin,

I have never used this drug. I am within a couple days of dying and will be able to communicate by hand signals once my speech and hearing have gone away.

L_M_l,

Yes, I agree, not recommended with other blood thinners, even nonprescription ones like aspirin or vitamin e! I'm glad you were able to make the connection before a real problem popped up!

I don't take blood thinners but I do take fish oil and sometimes curcumin which can both thin the blood. I decided to pass on the vinpocetine for that reason. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My husband is taking it, too. Time to call it quits. :(

Despe, I really have had good results but I was just taking too much (90 mg/d). I've decreased my dose and the bruising has diminished. Is he also on a blood thinner?

LML,

Thanks for the update. No he is not on blood thinners, but other supplements which are blood thinners, Krill oil, Turmeric, and Vitamin E.

You’re right, A fall could be fatal if he suffered a head bump. He’s a lucky guy to have such a proactive and loving caregiver :)

For about 2 months. I haven't stopped, just reduced my dose. It really has helped with executive function skills like recall of names etc...

This is from the website Nootropicsexpert.com. Last week I had a consult with the guy who runs this site. Interesting. One of his suggestions, I think, has already started to help my husband.

Dosage Notes:

Vinpocetine has a reputation among neurohackers and in clinical trials for safety at recommended doses.

Vinpocetine-dosage.

The recommended dosage for Vinpocetine is 10 mg taken 3-times per day with food. Vinpocetine seems to be more effective when taken with a meal or high quality fat like coconut or olive oil.

You can safely dose up to 60 mg of Vinpocetine per day total. But clinical trials and user experience nearly always report that higher doses provide no added benefit.

Side Effects:

Vinpocetine is well-tolerated and safe for use by most people. But if you’re particularly sensitive to supplements and drugs, try a starting dose of 5 mg of Vinpocetine and see how your body reacts.

If you’re dealing with low blood pressure you should avoid using Vinpocetine. This nootropic affects blood flow not only in your brain, but through your entire system. If you take Vinpocetine and feel light-headed or dizzy it could be a sign your blood pressure is low.

Vinpocetine affects clotting factors in your blood. And may decrease red blood cell platelet aggregation. So if you are using blood thinners or high doses of aspirin you should avoid Vinpocetine.

Stop taking Vinpocetine at least 2 weeks before surgery because of its effect on blood thinning and flow.

What brand are you taking? Also I notice you take intramuscular B1...do you self-administer or does the doctor have to administer it?
