Picolax bowel prep

Hi hope all is well, I am currently in a mild flare up again due to change in weather temperatures as I seem to get flare-ups every autumn/winter and always fine in the summer is very strange. Anyway I am booked for a sigmoidoscopy in October and will be given Picolax just wondering how others were with it as gastro has said it's very mild but I have never had it before and getting very nervous about it plus nervous about the sigmoidoscopy as first time and I'm not having sedation either so I can get home sooner hopefully. Really hope it's painless and quick 🙏

I can't tolerate Moviprep and so had Picolax when I last had a colonoscopy. The hospital also issued a couple of Ex-Lax. There's nothing to be nervous about as it tastes very pleasant and it's only a cup full as opposed to 2 litres of Moviprep.

I'm the same as the other poster. I can't tolerate Moviprep so get picolax. It's only a small glass of prep and no unpleasant taste. A sigmoidoscopy only looks at the lower part of your colon so doesn't have to go round all the really twisty bits and so isn't particularly uncomfortable without sedation. Normally you'll be offered gas and air so if there is a bit that's less pleasant you can use that to take away any discomfort.

Seems a bit overkill having picolax for sigmoidoscopy, it’s normally given for full colonoscopy. I had a sigmoidoscopy last month and was just given an enema to have at home 2 hours before procedure.

I’ve had many colonoscopies, last one without sedation and it was fine, however the sigmoidoscopy was so painful the endoscopist had to stop, gas and air did nothing. Good luck !

Thanks for your reply I can't be given an enema due to bleeding and suspected colitis hence the reason need to have the bowel prep🙁🙏 Praying all shall be ok I've opted for no sedation or pain relief not sure how I will be but shall try hard to get through it.

Also having tooth removal on the 19th again no sedation lol I'm a tough cookie 💪 or so I hope to be lol😂

Shall let you know how I get on booked for 1st of November 8 am so bowel prepping on Halloween lol not so fun 🥴

Best wishes and many thanks again 😀
