hi, I’m taking Cortiment steroids which worked for the first 2.5 months but the last 2 months I have been getting bouts of diarrhoea.

Therefore, i am now going to try prednisone!

Hopefully it will work for me then I will start the Adalimumab injections.

It’s all very overwhelming and the side effects are scary but I just want to have peace of mind and more control.

Any advice would be warmly welcomed.

:)

The Once you start that please stop the Cortiment. You will start with 6 tablets each day for 1 week and then reduce by 1 tablet each week until the course is completed. We will speak to you on Friday about the new medication (adalimumab)

I have taken Pred numerous times but mostly short courses 5-7 days. I was once on it for about three months, my only real complaint is finding it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep. I believe it has also affected my bone density.

thank you for your reply. I will take calcium tablets but am a little worried about bone density too and not sleeping. Also moon face. I’m meant to be on it for 6 weeks

I didn’t have a problem with moon face and did finally get used to it enough to sleep much better as time went on. Good luck with it.

I was on prednisone for 8 weeks a few years back and while it helped a lot with my symptoms it ruined my sleep schedule. I woke up around 3am every night unable to fall back asleep. I also remember that I was taking supplements for my bone density.

bones! Do all you can to protect your bones. This is the potential long lasting serious effect. The wakefulness etc is transient but beware the ‘bump’ when you stop pred and before your adrenals start working properly again. If your final dose is 5 mgs you might ask your doctors about a further taper (such as 2.5 or 1mg).
