How quickly does Prednisolone take to work?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me their experiences of how quickly the steroid medication Prednisolone takes to work? I was taking 40mg in the summer (tapering down by 5mg each week so taking 8 weeks to come off it) and it worked at stopping my rectal bleeding after only 5 days. I have been prescribed a further course but this time alongside Mercaptopurine and it's not working this time around. I have been taking both the Predisolone and Mercaptopurine for nearly three weeks now (I'm aware the Mercapto can take up to 3 months to work) and my rectal bleeding is no better. I don't think it's getting much worse to be fair, just not improving. How has everyone else got on with Predisolone?

Thanks for any comments, Claire x

Prednisone can sometimes take longer if you have been on it before, also you may have to stay on a higher dose for a bit longer then slowly tapering, hope this helps if no better talk to your dr

Thank you, I did speak with my Consultant today and as I'm not responding to the steroids he's increasing the Mercaptopurine x 3 so we'll see if that helps......hope so

It works fast! Prednisolone seems to be the only thing that can push me into remission. Of course, I have huge appetite that I have to control and I get a little jittery and clammy at times, but totally worth the benefits of this life changing drug. Thankful for this miracle cure.

My insurance won't cover it, so I get it online. This is website where I found Prednisolone: :-) zillarx.com/go/Prednisolone

Coupon code "SALE10" to get 10% off. Hope you are doing well.

I hope so! Thanks

Hello,

it worked quickly for me,after about 4 days (prescribed to combat a bad ulcerative colitis flare up) The consultant gave me one months worth, it was fantastic how quick and effective it was.

Good luck
