Hello and thank you for letting me join. Today I had a colonoscopy, that indicated to my surprise rectal ulcers. The rest of the colonoscopy looked good other than hemorrhoids. What I would like to know from those who have rectal bleeding and colitis as my doctor is leaning towards ulcerative colitis for diagnosis. What factors determine if it’s ulcerative colitis for certain.
I have chronic UTIs and get treated with Cipro since the beginning of this year almost monthly. Post menopausal. I believe the ulcerations are from the Cipro and my normally constipated system with irritable bowel syndrome. However this new gastroenterologist believe strongly that I have ulcerative proctitis. My symptoms begin suddenly out of the blue for the first time this year after eating a meal at a Mexican restaurant around February, I immediately begin with stomach grumbling and followed by explosive bowel movements that eventually turned bloody. I could barely sit down my hemorrhoids were flared. Very painful. During this time I had excruciating burning discomfort in my lower rectum. This lasted for about three weeks finally went away for months on end. Then recently, I ate a sandwich with a wheat cookie and I am gluten intolerant. Same issues stomach grumble followed by even the worst case of bleeding during gas expelling or especially bowel movements. My normal constipated movements turned into diarrhea. I don’t get diarrhea. Hence the colonoscopy. How do I know for sure that my symptoms aren’t a result of Cipro? Even if the lab biopsies do not indicate C. difficile, how can we know for sure that the damage is not from this antibiotic? And irregardless of what caused it would the treatment be the same for for Proctitis? Every time I have a bout of a bowel movement, I get lightheaded and a little wobbly on my feet. Again I have had a colonoscopy today And thankfully the colon looked well with the exception of a rectal ulcers. I am awaiting being sent to a specialist to treat uc since I have so many allergies the gastroenterologist Is not able to prescribe anything he wants me to be in a clinical setting for the medication given for ulcerative proctitis. If my biopsy shows that I have no ulcerative colitis, does that mean that I don’t have it or are there other factors to consider?
Is it safe to take mesalazine/octasa long term?
I'm convinced it's bowel cancer and I'm going to die.
