I had a colonoscopy on Thursday after a couple of months of pretty debilitating diarrhoea with blood, mucus & weight loss. I’ve had previous scopes but always clear. This one showed moderate colitis through the colon with the consultant thinking Crohns. I’m just awaiting biopsies for confirmation. Not sure how long this takes?
I’ve also suffered joint pain but assumed it was my age at 47 and developed chronic uveitis over the past two years. All seems to point towards IBD.
What can I do in the interim before getting a diagnosis & treatment? I’ve just been taking loperamide which has permitted a little normality but not sure if I still can? I’m even more uncomfortable post scope, symptoms worse with more cramping, so I just need advice to get by. My daughter often needs impromptu hospital visits (she’s post transplant) and I need to be able to leave the house for these!!! Plus its 7 weeks of summer holiday fun!!
Is it normal to feel so beaten up post colonoscopy? I’ve never suffered before albeit he scoped me like an F1 driver this time, all done in 15 minutes!!??
Thanks all

Hi, so sorry to hear you are suffering so much discomfort and realize how important it is for you to get your daughter to her hospital appointments.Your symptoms sound to me like UC and I'm surprised you haven't been given treatment. In the UK once the colonoscopy is done a report is written almost straight away and medicine prescribed.
Please get on to your Doctor who should be able to help you.
You’ve got a lot on your plate. I’m sorry. I have to say I am also shocked that they haven’t prescribed any medication. They usually do especially as you are very symptomatic and they could clearly see and identify inflammation.
Please do get back in touch with your consultant and get some meds prescribed.
Good advice in the other replies. I was given a prescription immediately after my first colonoscopy and you clearly need something to help symptoms! Try speaking to the consultant's secretary if possible or ask your GP to make contact and prescribe something. Take care with loperamide as it's not good to block up what needs to come out! Just occasionally when you need to travel may be ok. Also, only take paracetamol, not ibuprofen/aspirin for pain relief. Hope you get some help soon as your symptoms are classic IBD.
It should not take long at all for your biopsy to come back. I have had so many colonoscopies I forget how I felt the first time but I can imagine I felt beat up too. I have UC however a Colon Rectal Surgeon told me three years ago when I aren’t into a consult with him about possible surgery said that I have Crohns. Imagine that! The thing is I used to have the diarrhea issues it after I got my gall bladder out everything changed and now I have constipation issues. I also have Slow Bowel Transit. I also have RA and Fibromyalgia and Cystitis. I have been on so many meds for both. I’m at the point now I have to have bowel surgery which I’m not thrilled about because I am only 55. I’m sorry about your daughter. Right now my mother has breast cancer so that has been difficult to deal with along with my own health issues and her chemo appointments.
So sorry fir your pain and suffering. 😞 if I were you though I would try The Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Then when you start meds continue as it can help the healing process. It worked for me.
