My calprotectin remains high at 4000. Feeling great. No bowel issues for over a year.
Biopsies clear so really confused and frustrated as I eat healthy Excercise and am of good weight
Dr has upped the mezavant for now and I have discovered a product called Symprove which actually does seem to have changed my poo (thought it was ok before but this jas definitely changed and feels more comfortable since taking it)
Am I wrong to doubt the importance of a calprotectin level? It seems to me - on reading other posts - that there doesn't seem to be an answer for high levels and tests come back inconclusive?

The gastroenterologist I see says the calprotectin indicates inflammation and even if you are not experiencing symptoms the disease is still progressing and or doing damage.
Hi. I'm 32 and also currently have high calprotectin levels (2000). I have suffered with IBS for 10+ years, but 3 years ago I was referred for a colonoscopy due to blood in stool and a high calprotectin level (which was also 2000+ at the time). Unfortunately, they could only do a sigmoidoscopy at the time (looking at the very lower part of the bowel), which came back normal. They then did a PillCam test (which I think is just for small bowel) which also came back normal. I was worried about the part of the large bowel they didn't look at, but was assured that, as my calprotectin went back down to 60, there was probably nothing to worry about, and that the 2000 figure was likely due to an infection. I was told that my other symptoms were due just to the IBS.
Over the last 3 years, my symptoms have been mostly steady and not too bad. However, over the last few months my abdominal tenderness (hurts to press) has gotten worse. So I did another calprotectin test last week and the result is again over 2000.
I am now worried that they missed something in my large bowel, as they didn't look at most of it. Although the reason could be IBD, I, like you, do not have the main symptoms (diarrhoea/ constipation). I also have pretty bad lower back pain most days. So now I'm left thinking that it's something worse (but I know the chances are slim).
I wish you well in the future - please keep us updated if you feel comfortable doing so. I will do the same.
I have had colitis for 14 years now but I have never had calptotectin test I really dont know what it is and who does the test does it tell me if in flare up
Can I know that time when you do the test, did they find out what causes the blood in stool and after all your tests , does your blood in stool stops?? Thank you for replying
I have had another stool test (awaiting result). I saw on the form that they are using a new way of detecting so I will ask what that is.
I do a lot of research (as you all probably do too 😊) and take tuneric and Symprove daily.
With lockdown in place I also walk everyday and have found an online class with Pilates. When I walk I listen to podcasts. Lots with regards to mind/body health.
Tbh lockdown has enabled me to really look into these areas to help with my health. Take care all. I will post again with info on the previous and new way of testing my stools.
Btw I am under Chelsea & Westminster hosp. Cant praise the staff highly enough🙏
