Hey everyone feel like I’m always asking stupid questions on here so I apologise.
my consultant has told me i am being put on adalimumab in the new year does anyone know what determines whether you get Humira or a bio similar?! I’m being put on it as azathioprine hasn’t worked and I have a stricture in my small bowel (recent calprotectin levels were over 1700 too)
I’m in the UK.
Thanks!

hi hun, no question is ever stupid. I was on adalimumab, humira, for years and worked wonderfully well, unfortunately I developed skin lesions and as I had drug induced lupus from infliximab, i came off the humira. There are several biologics now that are slightly different so your consultant will find which suits you best. I prefered injection over infusions as I could do them at home and didnt tie me down to appointments x
I am not sure about the biosimilars but I have been on humira for 5 years for Crohn's disease and it has kept me symptom free for all of this time.
Hi Macceyy
I'm at a similar crossroad with my treatment. Glad you asked the question and good to read the two earlier replies.
I couldn't tolerate Azathioprine and Mercaptopurine and am now waiting to start on biologics in the New Year. Also about to transfer from current consultant/hospital to another Midlands hospital. My present consultant recommends Methotrexate?? During a medical trial screening a doctor said Infliximab is "better" than Humira/Adalimumab. Not sure why... in the end it's about what works best for you, I guess. My preference would also be Humira as you can treat yourself at home. Waiting for my appt in Jan/Feb to discuss all the options. Good luck with your treatment.
