Good afternoon all, hope you're all enjoying running in the sun (I hope it stays longer than last year!). I've just found out (well, 3 tests later) that I'm pregnant for the first time. It's something my husband and I thought would never happen as I have PCOS which can cause issues. Anyway, off topic.....here we are nearly 3 years after getting married and its finally happened! Slightly terrified! By my reckoning i am about 6 weeks, so still very early (does it count as real yet?). We don't have an appointment to see the midwife until a week on Tuesday, I plan to keep training as normal for the foreseeable future - 3 runs of 5-8 km in the week and a 8-12 km on a Sunday, is this ok? I only found out on Thursday night - did one test before my run after work which made for a rather distracted run and I had to do another one when I got back just to make sure, then hubby wanted to go out and get a digital one (men and gadgets eh) and that one sealed the deal lol.
I've had a 'google' and advice seems to be if you were running before you should carry on and just listen to your body. Eventually I presume the bump will get in the way and I'll walk my runs and stick to the bike and other bits in the gym. Interested in any advice you guys can offer please as we all know that getting advice from google can be dangerous lol.
Oh, and I have a 10k run in London next month too ..........
At least my newly purchased £90 Brooks will give my bump and I some extra support I guess so not completely a waste of money.
Happy but scared!
xx

What fantastic news! So now we've got two expecting mums doing this at the moment (t'other's lucykate... and possibly a recent graduate Hobbitfoot). There was a good link on Hobbitfoot's last blog:
What wonderful news, many congratulations! No doubt you will get heaps of brilliant advice from every possible quarter - just listen astutely, nod lots, keep smiling with joy, and blossom completely naturally and in peak fitness through the months ahead. Take running in your stride and remember there's no reason why a gentle jog can't be as slow as a brisk walk. Lots and lots of luck with everything. Linda x
Just as an aside.... re replies and double postings! I think this page on an iPad is goofy! Touch screen responses seem to either not register at all or they register twice! and then wont let you delete one of them. I get an error page! I have done it so many times and have been momentarily embarrassed by the duplications - I have to rush to a pc to make the deletions. A real nuisance.
However, it does make your page look as if the entire world has visited it! LOL Linda x
Congratulations on your lovely news. Speak to your GP/ Midwife but all that running you've already done should stand you in good stead. Best wishes Helen x
Many congratulations! I know a parkrunner (very experienced runner) who ran up to her 35th or 36th week .. perhaps even later. Since then baby has become a veteran of parkrun in the pushchair. The think is really to listen to your body as you rightly say and if you are used to running all should be well, but check with the midwife first! Good running.
Congrats Fillyfoo! How exciting for you and OH, only 3 tests, very restrained!
I'm sure you will be fine to carry on running as long as everything is fine, although I remember being so tired that after sleeping for 12 hours I could have slept all day too! So listen to your body, watch out for those ligaments softening too, and enjoy!
