After taking an extra rest day yesterday as my daughter cried off wk1 due to a sore knee and my legs are still feeling my last two runs, I was determined I would get out and run today...
All prepared, except find my trainers are sat by my front door and I am at daughters house - solution, wear her new pair and christen them with mud for her! Knew it was cold as had taken grandson to his swimming lesson; had four layers on top half, and could have done with more than two on the bottom! The wind was biting and snowflakes were falling throughout my run... Need to get some gloves I have decided, as my sleeves pulled down over my knuckles was not attractive or warm!
Get to park with dribbling, excited dog howling in the car, grandson wrapped up with his football and daughter wingeing about the cold to come (as she won't wear a coat!) I was ready for my 40 minutes of peace with my headphones and Laura pushing me through Stepping Stones again... but disaster #2 - Ipod out of charge! Nooooo!!!! Spend next 5 minutes trying to find the radio on my phone, get it going and off I go. I so need a new phone that has the ability to have more than one app on (I have Imapmyride and a torch and that's it!)
Running to news, adverts, competitions and various music tracks at differing tempo's doesn't lead to a quick run... Knew it was slow as I didn't stop at all except to decide which way to go as my usual route around the lake was a complete boggy mess. Ran up the slope to the furthest oak tree, then back to the lake where I saw daughter, dog and grandson, got a timecheck (radio stations are rubbish for timechecks I found)- only 16 minutes gone!
Ran back to the slope, up to the oak tree, back down, to the car park, back to daughter, past them to the lake (again!); that was the best track ('I think I want to marry you') so I got a bit of a speed rusk for the last 4minutes or so; and finally stopped at 38 minutes... Only 2 1/2 miles in total!
Oh well, it's 2 1/2 miles more than I could do a few months ago! My legs are feeling it, and my face was still radish-coloured at the endI suppose running in boggy grass up and down long gentle slopes is a bit of a workout in itself!
Laura, I will be charged and ready next time; bring it on!
