So you who know me here know I don’t like running in the wind. It is my nemesis. The heat, the cold, the wet – I can take them all but don’t give me wind (erm, I am talking about the weather of course before you have any cheeky thoughts about me and sprouts!!!).
Yesterday it knocked on my window at 6am, raised me from my slumber to laugh in my face and mock me, knowing I wouldn’t face it for a morning duel to defend my running honour since Boxing Day.….and it was damn right! I lay in bed listening to it howling and the trees creaking and promptly turned over to resume my slumber. zzzzzzz…..
Tomorrow is another day......
This morning there it was again, trying to hide behind the lovely sunshine to fool me but this time I was strong; I was determined; I will fight it!! So out I went, the sun in my eyes and it was a lovely run though it definitely was a hard fight at times – why is it that whatever direction I run in it always seems to be straight into that blasted wind?! Then, as I rounded a corner, it got its own back on me for daring to defy it by whipping off my cap and hurling it along the road….grrrrr!! I eventually managed to retrieve it without too much drama thank goodness and carry on my run laughing to myself and realising that actually it had not been so bad after all.
So though not my first choice of weather to run in, I have now proved to myself that it’s maybe not so bad and turn a negative into a positive by using it as a form of resistance training instead. I still don’t like the wind but as it seems to be with us for a good while to come I will now doff my cap in respect to it and hope by doing so it will, with good grace, allow it to stay on my head in future!!
Happy running and Happy New Year to you all!!

An absolutely wonderful blog, Sue!! From the sprouts to the mental image of you chasing your cap I spent your blog smiling!! Now, you are the winner!! You have faced your nemesis and came out victorious!! I am sure that many more battles the two of you will share, but I have full faith in you!!
Thanks Steve. Yep today there is a really fierce gale blowing so I submit to the powers that be and will stay in preparing myself for the festivities of tonight!
I will raise a glass to you both wishing you a very happy 2013!
I thought that was you who blew by our window!!!!! You think the way we do, the wind is horrible, so we just well go ahead and make a positive out of it by calling it resistance training!!!! I am so ready for Spring and it sounds like you are too. Spring here brings rain, but I can handle rain over the nasty wind and cold! I hope your husband is feeling better as I type this and wishing you guys a fantastic 2013!!!!! Gayle
Yep that was me Gayle (appropriate name btw for the weather we are having here!!) and I think I may be flying past again at some point today so look out for me!!
Spring sounds soooo good and inviting but at least we cannot call ourselves "fair weather" runners.....
Thanks for your good wishes; hubby still has a cough and has now hurt his foot (it actually sounds like plantar fasciitis but wasnt done by running - dont even ask!!) so no dancing to the chimes of Big Ben tonight but that wont stop us raising a glass of bubbly to my dear friends across the pond and on this forum!
I won't even ask how he injured the foot, but I can just imagine a few images! Yes! GAYLE and GALE, one in the same!!! Just ask Steve!!! We are going to Church, then coming home. We were blessed last night with several inches of the nasty four letter word stuff called snow. We will welcome in the New Year as well, toasting our friends from across the pond! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
You and me both yesterday. We spent Sunday at my SIL's caravan in Camber, known for its windiness. The kite surfers were having a whale of a time while I was running along the beach with socks full of sand. I didn't take my iPod as I knew the wind would stop me hearing it, but didn't realise I would come home with sand in my ears as well!!!!
