Winning and losing...

Well I completed week 8 run 2 today and i have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed it! It looks like me and the boyfriend have finally found a happy medium (he swims, whilst I run, at the leisure centre, then I meet him for a couple of lengths in the pool). He admitted that when I started doing the longer length runs that he probably wouldn't be able to keep up. I'm glad he has stopped asking me to run with him because I feel like its something I need to accomplish myself. Once the 9 weeks are finished I will venture back outdoors to enjoy running with him but I want to get these last 4 runs done and done well before Christmas.

Running on the treadmill has seemed to give me a new lease of life and its been welcomed with open arms! Ive done the last 3 runs on the treadmill and until today I hid behind a wall so that I didn't have to subject myself to my hideous reflection. Today I had one treadmill to choose from and it wasn't on the end, or behind a wall, it was right in front of the dreaded mirror and surrounded by people. I was nervous at first and didn't know how I would handle it as I also had a slight hangover (too many vino's the night before!). Once I got into the run I realised that because I could see myself I could focus on why I was doing this couch to 5k and that was to lose weight. I could see the bits I wanted to improve and focused on them. I got through the 28 minutes with ease and got off the treadmill with a smile on my face.

The truth is... I weighed myself this morning too and I've lost 10lbs since starting the podcasts! I'm so chuffed that I can finally see the weight shifting and I'm now a third of the way to my weight loss target!

I also would like to get to 5k in 30mins by the end of the 9weeks. I ran at 8.2kmph today and with the warm up and cool down I covered nearly 5k. For the last minute I upped my speed to 9kmph which felt quite fast to me. For the last week 8 run I think I'll push it to 8.5kmph and then if I manage that go straight up to 9kmph for week 9.

Fingers crossed I can get my graduate badge on Christmas Eve.

Keep running guys :)

Well done Lazy Moo! I agree completely about you having to do the programme on your own. I was the same when my husband started running - he runs much faster and I decided that I had to just do my own thing. Now and again we go out together to do 5k (usually an extra run for him) but mostly we go separately. He's up to 10k+ now - way out my league!

It's so encouraging once the weight starts to come off - well done and good luck for graduation. Will you squeeze in your grad run before Christmas? :)

If I can run every other day I will graduate on Christmas Eve! I'm pushing myself towards that goal and I start week 9 on Thursday! My trainers are starting to fall to pieces though, just when. I need them! I've also been told not to buy anymore as I "don't know what Santa will bring"!

I'd also love to be able to do 5k by run 3 of week 9. I've been pushing myself today and I managed about 4.4km in 28mins :).

It's true everyone has their boundaries to break and some are just a bit further than others. It's good to just embrace that we are doing something that is good for us no matter what the time or the distance :).

I think I'm well and truly hooked :)!

Thank you for your kind words.

Fantastic update, LazyMoo!! 28 minutes with ease and a smile...that is a good run!! It sounds like that shiny badge will be yours in no time!!

More importantly, congratulations on your weight loss!! I know how hard it can be to drop weight and your 10 pound loss is fantastic!!

Keep Running!! :-)

Thank you for your encouragement, it always seems to spur me on to finish!

I've always struggled with weight loss, but this just seems to work for me. Christmas is looming however and I fear mince pies and alcohol may be on the cards. You can't stop enjoying yourself though, it is Christmas :)!!

Hopefully that shiny badge will be mine by Christmas.
